1. Show up late by about 20 mins.
It is a sad fact of life but I am always late. And you see JR Ward is suppose to guest blog tomorrow, so my mind is sort of ‘brotherfocused’. So I had decided not to go to the Lisa Kleypas book signing at the Barnes & Nobles (12635 W IH San Antonio TX 78230 – tres cool and very romance friendly – /break to pimp)
Then I thought, self, how many times will you have to meet Lisa Kleypas in person. So I decided to go. Then I thought what the hell do I have to say to this women in person, 1000 other people won’t say. So I decided not to go. Then I thought, self, you are a blogger! A parasite by trade… so really what the hell. So I decided to go. But my hair looked bad… I could go on. Needless to say I was late.
2. Cut across in front of the table to get a seat.
Le sigh… see number 1. There were tons of chairs. Honestly there should have been many more people there. I think they were battling with number one, see above. The empty seats were all in the middle and the front row. So I being the shy, quiet type I am, stood off to the side.
3. Don’t shut up. Ever.
There were probably rules. I think. See this is one cool thing about being late! You miss the rules. Score one for team me. So I stood there, you know being shy and timid, listening to Lisa Kleypas talk. She finished with the question and looked around. There was quiet so I felt the need to fill it. WHAT??? This of course made me cut across in front so I could sit down and stop making poor Lisa Kleypas strain to hear me. I was nice and up front. Poor Mz Kleypas.
4. Argue with the bookseller…
Okay this isn’t really true, I didn’t argue per se. I just disagree a touch. ::blink:: WHAT???? See the part about being a blogger.
Really I am not sure, being a book signing virgin, if this is allowed or not. Hey! I mentioned Squawkers too. I was on topic! Lisa had things to add the conversation. It always circled back to her and Sugar Daddy at some point.
6. Tell the author you are not a fan of the voice in which she wrote her book in.
I should get points for being nice about it.
7. Talk about the book you are writing.
Yo! I didn’t do this! In fact of the people there I was one of the few that didn’t. Do authors get tired of listening to people talk about the book they are writing or want to sell? Or does it make me a loser for knowing so much about an industry I don’t work in or have plans to work in?
8. Take notes about things that come to you that have nothing to do with the author or book.
Really this is okay I think because Kleypas had no clue what I was writing. I think.
I kid. I didn’t get tossed out. In fact I had a delightful time, met some real life romance readers, found a new store in my home town with a wicked cool romance manager and found out Lisa Kleypas really is as sweet as she seems online. I am even planning to go back this Saturday.
Highlights and lowlights to be posted, most likely on Saturday. And of course Lisa will be on blog March 14th.
Great meeting you Sybil! You and Lisa and Erika were like my pocket friends LOL! So glad I met you and you told me about your site…Am pimping it out already 😉
Sounds like you had a great time.
Hey Andrea! Nice to meet you too! So much fun getting to talk romance in person! And I sooooooo approve pics before they get sent anywhere… RIGHT!?!
I did Jane! Glad I went.
Oh wow, you met Lisa Kleypas? How cool is that? Have you started Sugar Daddy yet? I’m you went, authors hardly EVER come to L.A. I wish they would though….I want to meet Lisa Kleypas dammit!
I want to meet her too.
You know, Sybil, if you had said you really had been kicked out … I wouldn’t have been shocked.
*ducks and runs*
Lol! 😀
Sybil – you’re killin’ me here! I can’t believe you considered NOT going to see Lisa Kleypas!!!!! – lol! And I am dying to know! I read on the Susan Brockman bulletin board that “that publisher!” wouldn’t let her write a story with a gypsy hero! Is that true? ‘Cause if it is – WoW. Not that I want to start rumors or anything – but just wow.
Mea Culpa and of course I meant Suzanne – not Susan. It’s very early yet! Very early!
Hey Kristie(J)!
Lisa said she tried like 3 outlines with Cam and her editor kept saying it wouldn’t work. So Dasiy got her long suffering love instead. Straight from Lisa’s lips! pinky promise!!
Nothing like fanning the flames of the avonization of romances. You would think that an author like Kleypas would be able to write what she wants. I always found that scene with Daisy and Cam to be weird.
Sigh… I’m jealous. I want to meet Lisa Kleypas too. Lurve her books.
Good on you! Lisa spoke at my very first RWA meeting and she was(is) SUCH a sweetheart! 😀
So, maybe this explains why she’s no longer with Avon?
Yeah, that is my guess.
I flaked out on going to the signing! I wanted to! I just couldn’t get my tired bones to comply. Doing fun stuff during the week lessens the torture of working, so I avoid it at all costs. 😉
Hmmm, that is slightly different from what Lisa wrote when she was promoting SIS on SquawkRadio.
I’ll post the complete paragraph and link:
seton, seton, seton… I said I was posting highlight prolly on saturday. LOL so hold your horses. And of course Lisa will be here on the 14th.
Sybil, Sybil, Sybil.
Okay I’m going to skip JR Ward Day and will be back to read what else was said over the weekend.
LOL
Seton doll you know I adore you I can only focus on so many things at once *g*. Wanna know what Kleypas said about Ward?
Sounds like you had a good time. Do you think you could convince LK to come visit me in Cali? I want to meet her, too!
Sybil, It was really nice meeting you and talking with a fellow romance-a-phile. Thanks for the nice compliment in the blog. I hope you come and visit with us a lot…for we hope to become the “romance store” in town. P.S. You not only would NOT have gotten kicked out…you were so enthusiastic that you helped to make the evening rich.
