At least it is in my part of the world!
However, we’ve been fairly lucky this summer here in the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. We had a beautiful cool-down in July for a couple of weeks, a time when it’s 100+ degrees, even in the shade. Temps in the mid 80s had all of us lightheaded here in the nation’s prime ag land, running around doing things we don’t normally do during summertime!
Then it’s back to the old grind, according to the weatherman. 101, 102 degrees this past weekend. I had visions of our yearly contest of how many days running it would be 100+ and would we hit 115 again. But wait! That dire prediction never came to pass. We hit the high 90s and thought we were in heaven. And it’s the same for the foreseeable future, thank goodness. Central Californians will take high 90s any day of the week, believe you me.
So what’s it like in your part of the world? Hot and getting hotter by the minute? Or are you also experiencing some cooler, abnormal weather for this time of year?
What do you usually do, if your temps are where they should be, to beat the heat? And if you’re lucky to have it nice right now, what are you doing to take advantage of that beautiful weather?
And what do you get if you tell me? Ha! You just know there’s a catch, huh? But it’s a very good catch. How about this nifty pile of books:
A Wicked Lord at the Wedding by Jillian Hunter
The Wicked Duke Takes a Wife by Jillian Hunter
A Duke’s Temptation by Jillian Hunter
To Tame a Dangerous Lord by Nicole Jordan
To Desire a Wicked Duke by Nicole Jordan
Wicked Little Game by Christine Wells
Sweetest Little Sin by Christine Wells
In Bed with the Duke by Christina Dodd
Taken by the Prince by Christina Dodd
Dukes to the Left of Me, Princes to the Right by Kieran Kramer
Cloudy with a Chance of Marriage by Kieran Kramer
I look forward to hearing about your fun during hot summer days!

Ugh! Not only has the temperature been close to 105 right now, but last night we had a massive wind/thunderstorm that knocked out power to most of my town, including my house, for the entire night. 105 + no a/c + no fans = one miserable insomniac. So after rolling out of bed at 6:45 this morning, I washed my face, dressed and headed straight to my air conditioned office extra early!
It’s usually hot in my neck of the woods this time of year but not usually the 100+ degrees for weeks in a row like it has been lately. I drink lots of iced tea, with an ice cold beer at the end of the day. Turn on the ceiling fan and relax with a great book.
Despite the heat, and the unusually high amount of humidity in the air this year in Idaho, we’ve been pretty blessed this year in that there has only been a couple of small forest fires this year to royally mess our air up. Usually by this time we’re living under a huge cloud of smoke trapped by an inversion that lasts up to a month.
So far we’ve had a few days at 100, no rain, high humidity, power outages and the smell of tar is everywhere as the powers at Ada County Highway Dept have decided to chip seal all the roads in Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Kuna, Star and parts of Nampa all at the same time.
Cheerio!
It’s a bit hotter than it’s supposed to be (roughly 105) but not terribly unusual for this time of year. I’m in south Texas – it’s not as deathly humid which would be nice except that the drought is killing us. I’ve never been as glad for trans-continental food transportation than this summer (I haven’t seen a field that had living things in it.)
Being south Texas, we are firm believers in air conditioning. Don’t go outside from about 11am-7pm unless you’re going to the pool. It’s actually been pretty nice at 8 am (okay mid80s, but that’s 25 degrees cooler than at the middle of the day) and we took a nice long walk at about 9 pm yesterday. Lots of iced drinks. And staying in the shade.
Its very hot and humid here in KY. 95 and up is the way its been here with heat index well above 100. Its to hot to stay outside long, we have to wait until late in the evening to even get the lawn mowed. So we try to stay in as much as possible drink plenty of water and read and hug the air conditioner.
Well, here in Florida, it’s always hot. Today, it’s 95 degrees with probably 100% humidity. To stay cool, I just stay inside in the air conditioning. I broke my hip a few weeks ago, so just take it one day at a time as I’m not able to go out anywhere. However, in a few weeks, I should be a little more mobile so, will go in my pool to not only keep cool but also to strengthen my hip. Therefore, killing two birds with one stone. LOL . Thank you for such an amazing contest with such a generous prize.
I live north of you in Sacramento Valley so our temperatures are pretty similar :). Truthfully I will take dry heat any day compared to the humidity in the east coast where I was last year around this time. To beat the heat, I just try to stay indoors with the air conditioning as much as possible and drink lots of iced/cold drinks. If I’m out shopping, I try to avoid crowded places and only go to stores with working air conditioning. Thanks for the great giveaway!
At last the temps are comfortable today, mid 80s. We had nonstop 90 degree weather for days. I like to go shopping when it’s hot because the stores usually crank up the AC real high.
It’s not the heat, well it is, but it’s also the humidity thats grabbing us here in PA. Sadly, I can do nothing about it when I am at work excpet sit infront of a fan as not all areas I work have airconditioning. However if I am at home, I am plopped in front of said machine reading or rereading my favorite books. Many of which are “hot” even with out the weather helping things along.
First of all – great giveaway! That’s quite a pile of books! NYC was sweltering for a while there and I thought I was going to lose my mind and all the money in my bak account to run the AC. I had to leave it on all day for my pooch, so my eletric bill was waaay up there, but, interestingly enough, I used more electricity the same time last year and it wasn’t as hot. Nothing’s changed since then, so I don;t get it…
Anyway, we’ve gotten a break this week and the temp is in the blessed 80s – totally manageable. I finally wore a pair of long pants after weeks of not being able to have all that clothing on me! I just hope it continues for a while. I don;t want to rush time, but I’m a huge fan of the fall (my bday’s in October) so i’ll be happy when it gets here. Whew – this was a long post. Thanks again for having the giveaway,

It’s been equally hot in Toronto lately, with July’s usual daytime temperatures hovering around 100, but the humidex pushed the ambient temp to about 120. Whew! I’m a teacher, so I’m off in the summer; my niece and I have been hanging out at the movies, the ROM and the library, making the most of the ‘free’ air conditioning whenever possible. Besides the air con at home, there’s been a lot of trips to the pool in my building. Things have cooled down a bit now, so we can head to the local parks, and we’ve been doing more bike riding and swimming. Gotta enjoy the warmer weather before the snow flies again 😉
Here in the Midwest we had at least two weeks of sweltering – the hottest and most humid on the weekend, it seemed. My car doesn’t have air, so errands are not fun. My house does have air, which is great for everyone, especially the dog. I cope by taking two showers a day (after walking dog) and much more laundry. Popsickles for the kids, water, water, water. Right now we’re in a cool pattern – we get those, thank you Canada. I do not like hot weather, I’ll take winter any day of the week. There are those who complain about Wisconsin winters – I am not one of them!
In the southeast we’ve hit around 100 with higher heat indexes this week. Plus the high schools have had band and football camps this week. I don’t see how those kids do it. We’ve been hitting the water whenever we get the chance. There’s a nice cool mountain creek with a good swimming hole just down the road. Only problem is snakes, I hate snakes. We saw 2 while we were there Wednesday.
In Pennsylvania there are many summers where we never see 100 but this year has been hot and humid with several days over 100. Yesterday though was a break and it was sooo nice to be down to the 80s. When it gets so hot all I want is some water and a good book. Unfortunately the house has to be cleaned and the meals cooked.
Portland’s summer didn’t being until the middle of July, but now we’re in the middle of perfect weather: low 80’s during the day, upper 50’s at night. The overlong spring rain and gray gloom was a downer, so I’m really loving the perfect temps.
In the northeast, the temperatures are averaging in the ’80s. That’s hot around here, but nothing like your temperatures. I’ve just kept the AC going at home and in the car.
Nope no cool air in sight here. We have it bad like you. I’m in south Alabama and we’ve been under severe heat advisory for a while now. As of Yesterday that changed to an excessive heat warning which is expected to last the rest of the week. It can feel like 120 here with the heat index 🙁 and the humidity is beyond awful. You can walk outside and suffocate I think. Staying inside with the a.c. turned up is how I am coping lol. It’s usually always hot and muggy here – though not quite this bad. If I’m lucky I get to go somewhere to enjoy a pool occasionally as well as the beach in the a.m. and evening.

We’ve had some wicked heat and humidity in the Chicago area this summer – but the worst has been the violent storms that have knocked out our power twice, first it was out for three days and last week again for about 24 hours. It’s miserable because you don’t even have a fan, much less AC, and no lights to read by! Oh, how we have all become spoiled by modern conveniences. We’ve finally cooled off a little to the mid-80’s with lower humidity which I hope means we’re through the worst of it for this summer.
Over here we had a pretty dreary summer. No sun, just rain and clouds. Only last week did Mr. Sunshine decide to make an appearance. It’s warm but not hot. If there is an upside is that I do appreciate the breezy, mild-warm days. It’s great for spending time outdoors hitting the trails or an all-day picnic or jus tas good to stay room with a good book or two.
Like others have said, it’s not the heat, it’s the humidity. But these past few days have been almost pleasant here in SoCal. I joined the YMCA so I could take the little ones in the pool when it gets just too hot out.
