This needs to be read for the author note(s) alone…
No really. It will be a shame if the book doesn’t live up to my very high expectations now.
The River Nymph by Shirl Henke (collaboration w/Jim Henke)
What happens when a beautiful lady gambler faces off against a professional card shark with more aces up his sleeve than the Missouri River has snags? A steamboat trades hands, the loser forfeits his clothes, and all hell breaks loose on the levee. But events only get wilder as the two rivals, now reluctant partners, travel upriver. Delilah Raymond soon learns that Clint Daniels is more than he appears. As the polished con man reverts to an earlier identity—Lightning Hand, the lethal Sioux warrior—the ghosts of his past threaten to tear apart their tempestuous union. Will the River Nymph take him too far for redemption, or could Delilah be his ace in the hole?

Chapter One
It wasn’t every night a crowd on the St. Louis levee got to see a female riverboat gambler. It for sure wasn’t every night they got to see Clint Daniels lose his shirt, as he sat across from her in the made-over salon aboard his stern-wheeler, The River Nymph.
I will probably burn for eternity in the Seven Hells of Edwards for saying this but
just cracked me the hell up.
Did you read the hubby and wife thing about working together? If their wit comes across on the page this will be really great.
I hope to read it soon.
Yes, yes, I read it. My comment wasn’t a reflection on the book at all— the way that one sentence of the blurb is worded just amuses me greatly. There’s just something about it that is making me chuckle.
I only read part of the excerpt. I don’t want to spoil the rest because I’m absolutely sold on this. Thanks for posting about it Sybil, I would have probably walked right by this one in the store. The coverart really doesn’t do the book (excerpt) justice.
Hi Vanessa, Bev and Sybil,
Just wanted to let you know how happy I am that you are reading my new book, co-authored with Jim. When you finish the book, please enter the contest on my website for a chance to win an autographed, framed bookmark and designer original silk floral centerpiece. We’re hoping to continue to write comedic western romances…if we don’t kill each other in the meanwhile 🙂
Happy reading,
Shirl
