I admit it, I LOVE series books. Nothing gets me going faster to Borders than hearing a book is part of a series. Oh, baby, ya can’t hold me back.
I didn’t know my Malloy family series would turn into seven books (no jokes about J.K. now), but I think it was just the right number. The new series, Devils on Horseback, will be five books. *holding up three fingers* I swear, no more, no less. The first one is obviously on its way, book 2 is scheduled to release in March.
What about y’all? Who loves series or who doesn’t? Give me the 411 on your series experience. One lucky poster wins a download of a Malloy family series book of choice!
I LOVE a good series. I love seeing reoccurring characters~to see their growth and happiness (if it’s after their HEA)!
I have a funny thing that I HAVE to read them in order. Even if people say the books can stand alone~doesn’t work for me!
Tracy ~ *nodsnodsnods* Yep, that’s exactly it! I hate it when I accidently read book 3 before book 1. Argh! I don’t want to see the H&H from book 1 in blissful HEA yet!! LOL!
I love to read series. I do like to read them from the beginning. I don’t want to jump in the middle.
Crystal ~ Yeppers, me too. I think it’s important too that the book be labeled as part of a series (like “Book 1 of the Bad Mamas series” or “Part of the Hard Hearted Men of Texas”).
I am a series addict too, my bookshelves are full of them. Creating that world that you want to disappear into again and again, makes for a great series. Oh, and I already have all your Malloy books, Beth,(love ’em), so don’t enter me in the contest.
I love reading a series, but I’m terrified of trying to write one. LOL
I enjoy reading series. It is a chance to get to know some characters better, revisit ones we fell in love with previously, and enjoy the time and place that the author introduced us to.
Cathy ~ Hey there girl. 🙂 Thanks!
Sasha ~ You aren’t terrified of anything. LOL!
LLL ~ Yep, that’s it exactly. Familiar and comfortable.
I like a good series, as long as it doesn’t go on for TOOOO long. Case in point, I rather liked the Bedwyn’s but lately, it’s just a little bit of overkill. Other series enjoyed were Quinn’s Bridgertons and Galen Foley’s Knights Miscellany. And I can’t talk about fav series without a shout out to the BDB! Yeah, I know, it may show my lack of discriminating taste, but oh well. As the brothers might say ” s’all good, true?” 😉
I haven’t read any of the Malloy books, but I am about to hie myself off to purchase Nate’s book. “Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, graphic language, violence.” woot! Sounds like my kind of story. lol. Traveling for work, in a lonely hotel in a strange city means time to curl up with a good new e-book. ta!
What I like about a series:
– A new world (even if it’s an old setting) featuring some great characters and a new set of circumstances.
– The chance to follow said great characters through their stories and catch a glimpse of them in other books.
What I don’t like about series:
– A series that goes on too long, particularly if it goes past what the author had intended. Things tend to fall apart, the worldbuilding maybe wasn’t well thought enough out to accomodate everyone.
– Or, there is a plethora of sickeningly perfect heroes and heroines abounding everywhere. Especially noticeable in the epilogues.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I love a good series when it’s done right. And that can be pretty subjective, can’t it. 🙂
Sula ~ Yes, I love a good series if each book tells a different story too. I’m not too keen on books that seem to be the same story with different H and H. 🙂
Jane ~ LOL! It’s all subective though – what I love you might thinkis mediocre, but we could both love a different series. As for the perfect heroes and heroines – you won’t find them in anything I write – and seriously no weeping, TSTL heroines. My peeps have problems like us real folks.
“It’s all subjective though – what I love you might think is mediocre, but we could both love a different series.”
Beth, Ain’t that the truth. And normal folks with no TSTL heroines? yippee! 🙂
