The Education of Mrs. Brimley by Donna MacMeans
Emma Brimley made one small fib in her application to the Pettibone School for Young Ladies: she claimed to be a widow. But when she arrives in Yorkshire, she is dismayed to learn that she’s expected to prepare her students for the intimacies of marriage—of which she knows nothing! Her only hope of maintaining her place lies with the alluring Lord Nicholas Chambers, a neighboring artist whose behavior is scarcely consistent with that of a gentleman.
True to his reputation, “Lord Bedchambers” offers Emma a scandalous bargain: he will answer her questions about anatomy and bedroom etiquette, if she will pose for him…in the Grecian fashion. Though keenly aware of the dangers of such a scenario, Emma determines to best this noble roué—never thinking she may be risking her heart as well…
This is one of the books Cindy Hwang mentioned in her Dear Author interview. I wonder if it is as slap stick as it sounds? I would love to read it or some of it… something.
Anyone read it yet?
I read it and would give it between a C+ or B-. For a first time author, Maclean writes okay, but I have a major issue with the heroine. I didn’t find it slap slick at all, well if is comes down to the way Mrs. Brimley acts, which IMO is a little unbelievable.
This “widow” is not what she seems and a tad too naive.
But the hero is quite yummy and a painter to boot 🙂
But I do love the cover, very nice.
I thought it was wonderful – sexy and funny but not exactly slapstick.
Haven’t read it yet but I did pick it up from BAM earlier tonight.
