We’re running some new masthead and icon ideas around the track, seeing which ones will win.  The top two images below are masthead ideas for the site. The rest are icon ideas – small images meant to represent the whole site when the full masthead is too much.Â
Tell us which ones you like. Make recommendations – move the image to the right/left, use serif typeface, put it over/under/thru the image, I like, I hate, etc. And we have our big girl panties on, so feel free to critique – I like, I hate, why don’t you find something useful to do! Let your creative juices flow!Â

Masthead #Neg.1
Masthead #0
Masthead #1

Masthead #2

Icon #1 Â
Icon #3 Â
Ooh, I like the first masthead–although why is the blond chick giving that brunette chick the evil eye? Everyone else has such big smiles…
The title is really long; maybe put the last third underneath? Not sure.
And because I like to sit here and wonder what nasty things the blond girl is contemplating, I vote for Icon #3. Icon #2 might technically constitute duckie porn (what IS she doing to the tail feathers??)
I like the first masthead too. And of the icons, I vote for #1 because I’ve always loved the little ducky, even it doesn’t really have anything to do with anything. The only thing I notice in the icons is that when all the caps are put next to each other, they seem a little squinched (is that a word?) together and difficult to easily read.
Have a look again. I took Caroline’s idea and ran with it. The text is on two lines and the duck is now the book.
LOL I know leah the duckie doesn’t do jack but be tres cute.
hmmm sort of like me! hee! Caroline had nifty ideas… and if I member correctly coding skills…
I like Masthead #0
Changing my vote to #-1 or #0. Love the duck on the book (and the blond girl is thinking: “Rubber duckie, you’re the one…”). The letters are all squished on all the icon choices, actually. Maybe try a bigger duck and smaller letters?
What are you saying about my coding skilz, Sybil?
That you lurve me and can help me with my blog… 🙂
I think -1 rocks the bestest.
Does anyone else besides me reckon the last two look like “The View”, with Mrs Walters insructing them on book club eteiquite? (and no, obviously I can’t spell ettiquitte)
That blonde chick is definitely giving the evil eye to SOMETHING! I think we should leave her in there that way – as a reminder to the kerfuffle side of blogging.
Anne – HA! Babs never looked so good. But that is one funny mental image!
etiquette?
#1 for sure! 🙂
Love those big girl panties (they do come in handy!).
I’m not reading the other comments so as not to be confused, which happens too easily.
Please try the font without the shadow…the letters are not sharp and clear as is. Just saying: try it.
And Masthead # 2 would be my first choice as would Icon # 2 (if the letters were either spaced farther apart or unshadowed)
My two cents,
Bonnie
Masthead #0
I think I like Icon #2 but I can’t tell what’s on that platter, or if it’s a platter at all.
I like it better with the words along the top and the bottom. And for the icon – I like the one with just the duck and the letters.
I like the first masthead, balances out very nicely, and on my PC I can read it clearly with the shadow effect.
I like icon #2 best, it’s fits in with the masthead, and I like the duckies. The letters are harder to read, too close together on the icons, especially the smaller ones. If they could somehow be widened,or if not, try it without the shadow effect here and see if it makes a difference.
Why aren’t there more ducks? I think I like #1 best, although the husband says you should be using Trebuchet for the font. Why, I do not know. He has strong feelings about fonts.
I like number 1 and 2 the best 🙂
Yah more ducks. You should have a big ass duck at the table with the ladies! LOL
Oopss. I meant #1 and #0 not #2! Duh
I like 0 then 1 . . . they’re the quickest to read. Not too sure about the duckies–but if they’re *lurved* put ’em out there.
My DH is big time picky, too… but his thing has been internet marketing in the past. He’s not here or I’d ask him. I like Masthead #Neg.1 and Icon #2.
Okay, prepare to pull up the big girl panties…
I like masthead #1 with the words above and below the pic.
However, for the icon, I think the letters are too squished on all of them. I like the duckie, but I’d like to see the quacker bigger so he’s more noticable like in icon #2 and #3. So bigger duckie with unsquished letters on him- probably should be the same font/style you use in the masthead, just resized.
😀
k
make it happen 🙂
someone… anyone…
heeee
I have always wanted a stack of books with a duckie on top and an outline of texas leaning against it… or a spur or something… and maybe a duckie on the floor next to the stack…
Something that could be bigger in the header with the title next to it:
The Good, The Bad
And
The Unread
In of course a nifty purple font. And could be sized down to an icon. LOLOLOL I don’t want much do I :). One day…
Masthead #neg 1. I like the Duckie in the book, and the title framing the girls.
Icon#2–like that’s it’s different from the masthead, but keeps the thematic elements going.
Charlene tell him to put one together 😉
Katiebabs!!! Just as long as it doesn’t look like we are gonna EAT it. QUE SHOCK!
I like #1. The duck rocks 🙂
I like the first one and the last small icon…I guess that would be Masthead #Neg.1 and icon #3.
I like masthead #0
Think I read the masthead number wrong, the one I like is the very first the neg. one.
I have to say I feel really sad when I think of it changing. *sniffle* I just love the current one! Whaaaaaa!!!!
This is nitpicky, but . . . whichever one you decide to go with, delete the comma before the ampersand (symbol for “and”).
I think all the icons look squished.
