The Compact of Sorcerers, a brotherhood sworn to guard the wall between the human world and the demon realm, have relied only on one another for centuries. But now there’s a traitor in their midst…
Struggling medical student Clea Masters knows she’s unique. Ever since her parents’ death, she’s been kept safe by an inexplicable force inside her that knocks back any threat. But when a demon attacks her, Clea is launched into a dangerous world she never knew existed. Her only ally is a lethal, seductive man who arouses a hunger stronger than anything she has ever imagined…
Compact of Sorcerers member Ciarran D’Arbois will not let harm befall Clea. In her, he sees a strength he admires and a body he longs to caress. Yet demons are determined to break down the portal Ciarran has sworn to protect, using Clea as their key. Now as a rogue sorcerer leads the enemy ever closer, Ciarran and Clea have only one hope. Both must surrender to their darkest passions–and unleash their most dangerous, untested desires.
DEMON’S KISS–Which is more deadly, his passion or his power?
I really like this cover. And the book sounds interesting. Demon’s seem to be replacing the vampire craze.
Anyone read a Demon book yet? Can you think of a Demon book or does it just seem like they are coming out of the wood work? There is of course Demon Angel, which if you haven’t read you need too. And the sequel Demon Moon, which is coming out soon but that is really about a vampire *g*.
Hell With the Ladies had demon’s for heroes. And Erin McCarthy has a demon book coming soon but it isn’t out yet. So can you see getting swoony over a demon or do you fall into the camp that doesn’t need to get swoony over the hero?
If so… can you buy a demon falling in love forever and ever?
Ha! I’m reading a demon book right now – The Demon You Know by Christine Warren. I suspect it’s the third book in her Others series for St. Martin’s – although not sure if she wrote other books for the series at EC. Can I just say her web site is hopelessly out of date? And if Christine reads this – girlfriend, include a series page on your site listing the order of books. Just saying.
I think I must be kind of sick because when I first read Dead Witch Walking- I got really excited about the Demon Al’s scenes and hoped he would become some sort of love interest (like I said, sick, right?). *Sigh* That hasn’t happened, but I swear there’s sexual tension between them in every book, and that’s what keeps me reading the series.
So yeah, I totally dig Demon books and I think Demon Angel was great. The concern I have though is for authors needing to de-demonize demons in an attempt to make them romantic figures OR using demons as a gimmick. i.e. The Demon’s Daughter & Prince of Ice by Emma Holly- they’re “demons” but not really demons. Even this book, Demon’s Kiss seems kind of misleading. By having two characters kissing on the cover and a title like that, it implies that the hero is a Demon (which, of course, gets me excited). Well, after reading the summary, that doesn’t appear to be the case at all. Rather, the hero seems to be protecting her from Demons. So I guess what I’m saying is: I like Demon books, but not “demon” books.
I read the Warren. Thought it was decent. I emailed her b/c I really liked the other two, and asked asked about her website. Received no reply, so I think she’s pretty off-line. Site hasn’t been updated in over a year.
I find the question of whether or not a demon could love to be intriguing, so I think that’s why I’m interested in this spate of demon books. In the Warren book, she kind of took it outside the whole Judeo-Christian theology thing, unlike Demon Angel (which I loved). The different takes are interesting to me, and it’s fairly fresh (as opposed to the myriad takes on vamps). I am curious though, if Christians would object to demon as hero. But then again, they might object to paranormal romance in general, because I think the belief is that anything supernatural must be demonic. Anyone know more?
See, I decided to combine everything and make my vampires actually demonic. lol.
I love demons. You can pretty much make them whatever you want.
Two I should recommend are Lisa Cach’s COME TO ME and DREAM OF ME. I think the second is one of my favorite paranormals evah! actually, and the hero is a demon. (In COME TO ME, the heroine is.)
They’re related (set in the same time, and you see the same scenes from different POVs in both books) but you can read the second without reading the first (I did, then went back and picked up COME TO ME.)
I hope this doesn’t come back to bite me on the ass later, when maybe an idea of how to work it comes to me, but the demons will never be the heroes of my books. Lilith was the closest I can come to it. There will be different levels of how “bad” they are, but nah, I can’t make a demon a hero, because even the ambiguous ones fall a little bit more on the side of evol than I can redeem.
Well, that and I just like beings who were once human. I like to play with that.
I’M BAAAAAAACK! Didja miss me? *GASP* You didn’t even notice I was gone?! I’m crushed. 😉
Very pretty cover. I like demon books. And I’m with Loonigrrl – I sense a bittersweet quality to the demon Al’s relationship with whatshername.
I’ll probably read this book. If for no other reason than the cover appeals to me – I’m easy that way.
I’ve always said demons are an underserviced segment of the paranormal market
I’ve actually read this one–Demon’s Kiss (got an advance copy manuscript). It’s very good!
I think the hero in Demon’s Kiss is *part* demon. Unfortunately no one has seen fit to give ME an advance copy (yet)…sniffle sniffle…but I’ll definitely be buying it.
Looking to be educated . . . I haven’t read a demon book, and I might well take Sybil’s advice and do just that–but I’m having trouble getting past the definition of a demon as an evil spirit whose role it is to do harm and bring about ruin. I’m not thinking of it in the religious sense, just the idea that they are so intensely blackhearted and have always represented evil incarnate. What am I missing?
I should add I didn’t get the vampire thing either–until I read the brilliant JR Ward. Ain’t it grand that there is always something new to discover . . .
EC
This is what I find interesting, EC (for now at least). I should mention that I used to find the whole idea of demons absolutely terrifying. I’ve never made it through the Exorcist. So I think seeing how different authors make it work, i.e. create a believable and sympathetic characterm, while not totally whitewashing it, is potentially quite compelling.
JMO, but while I enjoyed the Warren, I thought the mythology or race building or what have you, needed to distinguish demons more from the fiends (the traditional evil mischief makers), and just general super strong warrior type guys.
This looks hot!
And Eve has been on a roll lately with her books 🙂
Love the cover and it looks like the heroine kicks ass!
Psst.. I missed you Gwen *G*
