Lisa Kleypas needs no introduction. I doubt there are any readers in romanceland who haven’t heard of her (although do shout if you haven’t and if you plan to try out a book*). I would even hazard a guess many non romance readers have heard of her, seen one of her books or her name. Kleypas is tough to forget.
Lisa Kleypas is a New York Times Bestselling author. She has been nominated for a few Rita’s and went home a winner more than once. She has been on the USA Today’s top 150 book list 20 times, hitting number 4 with Devil in Winter.
She has 4 coveted out of print books, 20 (counting an upcoming “Mine Til Midnight”) historical novels, appeared in five anthologies (some stories are reissued) and now has pen’ed a Contemporary/Women’s Fiction novel. And she is THE author of Devil in Winter**.
When this whole guest author day hit me a few years ago while exchanging emails with another author – Lisa was one of the the three on my wish list. For a couple of reasons really…
1. her website was/is not updated very frequently so I wanted to pump her for info
2. she seems so too nice to be true… so I wanted to see if she was *eg*
3. even with the Avon Ladies board (which she was apart of at the time) and even the addition of squawkradio (which didn’t exist at that time) she ‘seems’ to have a low ‘net presence.
That was over a year ago, really closer to two years ago and I honestly didn’t think it was going to happen. You can not begin to believe my level of shock when I saw her email, which I had assumed was a very polite no. Or my complete disbelief she was saying yes. Soooo saying that you may just want to color me a fangrrl *g*. Fair Warning π
I do hope you get a chance to join us because I don’t think the guest posts could have turned out better. If you have never read an historical romance novel, I can’t think of a better author to start with and if you have never read her and are looking for a great historical to read – she has a few.
If you are a contemporary romance fan or a fan of women’s fiction, Sugar Daddy is a book you should take a look at. And if you are a historical fan… hey…maybe it will help you decide if you want to try Sugar Daddy, if you haven’t read it already. If nothing else, you can see if she really is THAT nice.
* top right there is a printable list of her books that needs to be updated but is a start
** I may talk about this book just a touch
Oooh….Lisa Kleypas!
Good morning! I am so delighted to be here–not only will it be fun, but it gives me an excuse to look busy at the computer and have lots of coffee. I’ll be checking in at various times throughout the day, so if there are any questions you have, I promise I will get to them all π
–Lisa
I finished Sugar Daddy the other day. I stayed up way later than I should have to finish it and it was wonderful! I can’t wait for the sequel to it to come out. π
I love LK’s historicals (total fangurl here too) — DIW remains at the top of my list b/c I loved both the hero and heroine. Sorry I haven’t gotten to SugarDaddy yet but based off a lot of readers’ comments (Eloisa James’ BB) I’m determined to read it by this weekend. I was a little nervous at trying this contemp but it looks like it’s still classic LK – yay! Question: I noticed that her contemp is with St. Martin’s Press – but are her historicals still with Avon? Secondly – do we have an actual date for Mine Till Midnight’s release and pleeeze pretty pleeze can she give us a few more hints about Cam and the heroine (Anna?) – I already like her character based off the excerpt.
Erika, THANK YOU! I’m so glad you enjoyed it!!!
Dear Midwestgal,
Thank you so much–I LOVED writing DIW because it was such a fun challenge to pair the articulate and devilish St. Vincent with the shy, stuttering Evie. But I’ve known a lot of shy people who are very strong underneath, so I was sure she could handle him!
My historicals are now with St Martins, and Mine Till Midnight is coming out Oct. 2. I think the pairing of Cam and Amelia worked out VERY well . . . he is a Gypsy, a romantic, someone who believes in mysticism and miracles, and she by contrast is incredibly practical and down-to-earth. So he seduces her over and over again, and I think it’s a lot of fun. Here’s some tidbits: In MTM, I bring in some wonderful Gypsy folklore and culture, and I also reveal some secrets about Cam’s past that will be very important in the next book. Also, some of the characters from the Wallflower series make brief appearances, including St. Vincent . . . who is now a father π
Like Sybil I’m a total fangurl and my favorite is DIW. There’s just something so amazing about watching a women who seems weak turn out to be strong. I think that’s the thing I love most about your novels, Lisa. I’m very tough on heroines and yours are amazing.
Dang, I had a question but I lost it in all my fangurl gushing. lol I’ll come back later if I remember.
Oh, wait. One thing i want to know….
Are you EVER going to visit Southern Cali? I would love to come to a book signing!
Dear Holly,
Thank you, sweetie!–I would LOVE to visit So Cal, and I will hint HEAVILY to my publisher to send me there someday π
Thanks Lisa. Sebastian a Father! . . . wow . . . sigh . . . we kind of got that hint from SIS when he caresses Evie around her tummy at the end — LOVED that moment. And my apologies on messing up the heroines name for MTM — Amelia not Anna! Sorry!!
Alright, since you said someday, could you perhaps extend your stay in Ill a day or two then? I’ll be there the day AFTER your scheduled book signing. Poor me. π
