REVIEW: Sweet Talk by Susan Mallery

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Sweet Talk (Bakery Sisters, Book 1) by Susan Mallery
Contemporary Romance Audiobook published by Harlequin Books 1 Jul 08

I’ve already listened to the second book in this series, and when it comes to the heroine of that book, Nicole, I’m very glad I got to know her before this story. She’s one of those stubborn people who won’t let go of a grudge, and when her older sister, Claire, returns home, Nicole lets her have it with both barrels. Good thing Claire is sweet and learning to be just as stubborn as her sibling.

REVIEW: Forbidden Alliance by Diane Cosby

Book CoverVeena’s review of Forbidden Alliance (Forbidden Series, Book 4) by Diane Cosby
Historical Romance  published by Lyrical Press 06 Aug 2019

Elspet’s first meeting with Sir Cailin is under less than stellar circumstances; however, he quickly turns the tables on her, only to find that she is the means to him fulfilling his mission.  With their goals aligned, the two work together to rescue her brother held captive by the Earl of Dalkin, even as Cailin finds a way to take the earl down for his own reasons.  With two strong characters, this is a nice addition to the series. read more…

REVIEW: Practice Makes Perfect by Carsen Taite

Book CoverStevie‘s review of Practice Makes Perfect (Legal Affairs, Book 1) by Carsen Taite
Contemporary Lesbian Romance published by Bold Strokes Books 10 Jun 19

Although I’ve read a number of Carsen Taite’s stand-alone legal romances, I’m yet to properly delve into any of her series, most of which are a little lighter on the lawyers than the books I have read of hers. To make a start on bridging the gap, I picked up this, the first in a new legal romance series, featuring three women setting up their own law firm after tiring of the demands made on them if they want to make partner by the more expected route. Conflict and a love interest are provided this time around by one of their law school contemporaries, who is working for a more traditional firm, giving us a great opportunity to see more of the situations our trio of friends are trying to escape from. Campbell Clark is the first of the three to take centre stage, and she’s also the original driving force behind their firm.

REVIEW: Spun Out by Lorelei James

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Spun Out (Blacktop Cowboys, Book 10) by Lorelei James
Erotic Contemporary Western Romance published by Berkley 5 Nov 19

I’m always a bit worried the longer a series goes on, especially by a favorite author. I anticipate the time will come when a story just doesn’t work for me after ninety-two books. A little exaggeration, but you have to admit that most authors get gummed up in one way or another when a series seems to go on forever. But I have to admit I no longer think those things when it comes to Lorelei James. Not once has there been a story that hasn’t worked for me, no matter which of her series I’m reading. I have a feeling it’s going to be that way for some time to come.

REVIEW: Fever by Donna Grant

Book CoverVeena’s review of Fever (Dark Kings, Book 16) by Donna Grant
Urban Fantasy published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 29 Oct 19

Kelton may actually be one of my favorite kings, well after Constantine and Ulrich and.. okay, so I have a lot of favorites – but, really, he’s pretty up there on my list, considering he hadn’t been on the radar screen before his story.  He’s a grumpy old dragon who has spent most of his time sleeping and is not quite ready to accept this new and changed world where some of his brethren have found mates. That just sets him up for a rude awakening, and Bernadette is just the woman to do that.

This a must-read for fans of the series but also a great one for new readers to jump into, because the author does a quick synopsis when Kelton gives Bernadette a history lesson. read more…

REVIEW REVISIT: Dating Outside Your DNA by Karen Kelley

Book Cover LauraJ’s review of Dating Outside Your DNA (Planet Nerek, Book 4) by Karen Kelley
Contemporary Romantic Comedy published by Kensington Brava 24 Nov 09
Original Review posted 6 May 10

I have to admit right up front, I’m a bit disappointed. I have loved every one of these books. The characters are so fun and in each book there are several times I would laugh out loud (I did learn after the first one that these books are not good to read in public). I should clarify that I’m not disappointed in the book, no, not at all. I loved it, but I’m disappointed because this is the last book in this series. I’m going to miss Ms. Kelley’s quirky characters from this series. The heroes are all tough, seemingly alpha males brought to their knees by alien women who have a very low tolerance of both alcohol and chocolate.

REVIEW: Bad to the Throne by Jenny Gardiner

Bad To The ThroneDinca’s review of Bad to the Throne by Jenny Gardiner
Contemporary Romance published by Jenny Gardiner Books 29 Jun 15

This is another funny wack-a-doodle tale from Jenny Gardiner. I usually give up on most series by this time, but all the characters are well developed and have strong personalities, uniquely their own. All the stories are different unto themselves, with a lead-in from the previous book. I am already looking forward to the next one.

REVIEW: A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker

Book CoverStevie‘s review of A Song for a New Day by Sarah Pinsker
LGBT+ Science Fiction published by Berkley 10 Sep 19

There’ve been times recently, usually when I’ve been following the news a little too closely, that I wonder whether we’re all wandering unwittingly into a dystopian future of our own making. And that’s exactly what happens in this novel where fear of potential threats, rather than any current danger, has all but confined people to their homes, with almost all interactions taking place virtually and most essential needs being catered for by drone delivery services. Told from two points of view along separate, intersecting timelines, we get to see what happens when a government’s knee-jerk reaction to a terror threat, followed by an unrelated disease outbreak, becomes the accepted way of life for people who had been living in a world not far removed from our present.

REVIEW: Wrapped Up in You by Jill Shalvis

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Wrapped Up in You (Heartbreaker Bay, Book 8) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance published by Avon 24 Sep 19

Jill Shalvis always makes me smile and laugh while reading her books. She also tugs – very forcefully – on my heartstrings, and this story about Ivy and Kel is no different. Two people who have had letdowns (and that’s a mild term for it) find each other, enjoy one another, but are still afraid to let their pasts go, even for a wonderful future.
