REVIEW: Cross Breed by Lora Leigh

Book CoverSammy’s review of Cross Breed (Breeds, Book 32 ) by Lora Leigh
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 25 Sep 18

I was waiting for this book very impatiently. I have been looking forward to Cassie and DOG’S! book. Yes, you read that right, fellow breed fans. It’s Dog. I know we have been pondering this pairing for years. It’s finally here, and Lora Leigh does not disappoint. I didn’t think I could love a couple as much as I love them. Sometimes when reading a large series such as this one, expectations are through the roof. The good news is that I really doubt anyone will be sad with this latest installment. From the first page to the last, it’s non-stop goodness with a lot of heart. I think I was more excited about Cassie than Jonas, and I happen to love Jonas very much. This story doesn’t have all the sometimes confusing story lines and pretty much sticks to the couple, which I was very happy with. If you’re new to the series, I think you would be okay jumping in at Meghan’s Mark. After that, if you are still in love, Lora Leigh is working on getting her earlier Breeds books back online, since her old publisher went out of business. In the meantime, you can start reading from Meghan’s Mark and see for yourself why it’s such a loved series.

REVIEW: A Gentleman Never Keeps Score by Cat Sebastian

Book CoverStevie‘s review of A Gentleman Never Keeps Score (Seducing the Sedgwicks, Book 2) by Cat Sebastian
Historical Gay Romance published by Avon Impulse 10 Jul 18

Having come slightly late to this series, I was more keen to read this book than its predecessor, mainly on the basis of its blurb. I liked the descriptions of the contrasting central characters and was keen to find out what brought them together. As a boy Hartley Sedgwick endured sexual abuse by his godfather, in return for the old man bestowing gifts and advancement on his brothers and subsequently inheriting a townhouse and a place in society for himself. Now, however, the ‘truth’ of their relationship has been exposed due to rumours regarding letters found in the old man’s possessions by his son. Shunned by those who once clamoured for his company, Harley has become a virtual recluse, visited only by his brothers, until the night he catches a would-be burglar loitering outside.

REVIEW: Fight or Flight by Samantha Young

Book CoverVeena’s review of Fight Or Flight by Samantha Young
Contemporary Romance published by Berkley 09 Oct 18

I’ve done a fair bit of traveling this year, some of it even in business class, but, alas, no handsome or cranky men anywhere in the vicinity fighting me for my seat. I would certainly trade seats with Ava if I had the chance, though her tales of fights and flights definitely make an interesting read.

REVIEW: Chaser by Kylie Scott

Book CoverKristie J’s review of Chaser (Dive Bar, Book 3) by Kylie Scott
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Griffin 17 Apr 18

And finally we come to the last book, the reason I got into this series.  Just in case anyone doesn’t know, it was the shallow in me who thought the cover model was A-OK.  Once I started reading the series, I wanted to keep reading until I got to this one.

REVIEW: The Skylarks’ War by Hilary McKay

Book CoverStevie‘s review of The Skylarks’ War by Hilary McKay
Historical Fiction published by Macmillan Children’s Books (UK) 20 Sep 18/Margaret K. McElderry Books (US) 18 Sep 18

Some huge events seem to lend themselves to being told most effectively in books aimed at a younger audience. While stories for adults can convey what life was like during times of upheaval for individuals, it can take a child’s point of view to really express the impact felt by ordinary people as a group. This book, published as The Skylarks’ War in the UK and Love to Everyone in the US, follows a group of youngsters coming of age in the years leading up to the First World War. I think I prefer the UK title, and I most definitely prefer the UK cover.

REVIEW: Barefoot In the Dark by Suzanne Enoch

Book CoverVeena’s review of Barefoot In The Dark (Samantha and Rick, Book 1) by Suzanne Enoch
Contemporary Romance published by NYLA 15 Aug 18

“A simple pre-wedding getaway for a ‘reformed’ cat burglar and her wealthy British fiancé – what could go wrong? Except for his contentious family, a crumbling Scottish castle, a legendary treasure, and a possible haunting, that is.” This says it all and sets the tone for a delightful story set in the Scottish Highlands.

REVIEW: Brooks by Chris Keniston

Book CoverDinca’s review of Brooks (Farraday Country, Book 2) by  Chris Keniston
Contemporary Romance published by Indie House Publishing 24 Oct 16

Farraday Country continues with the second brother, Brooks, and the mystical dog that runs away after making contact. This is another well-written and edited story that I enjoyed very much. I love the characters and the cake balls Toni makes. I laughed my head off at the card game debacle.

REVIEW: The Protector by HelenKay Dimon

Book Cover Stevie‘s review of The Protector (Games People Play, Book 4) by HelenKay Dimon
Contemporary Romantic Suspense published by Avon 31 Jul 18

Various of the Duckies have raved about HelenKay Dimon, so I thought it was time I gave her books a go, even if it did mean jumping into the middle of a series. As it happened, not knowing the previous books presented very few problems, since this one stands pretty much by itself, even if several of the supporting characters have already featured in stories of their own. Our tale begins with Cate arriving home and getting the distinct impression that someone has been in her apartment. This isn’t an isolated incident, but with nothing stolen and no sign of forced entry, she is reluctant to call the police, especially since her previous encounters with them – a good few years in the past – led to her being written off as deluded at best. Believing that whoever is stalking her has some sort of link to the past – and the mysterious death of her sister – Cate contacts the only man she expects to believe her: a mysterious figure known as Wren.

REVIEW: More Than Words by Mia Sheridan

Book CoverKristie J’s review of More Than Words by Mia Sheridan
Contemporary Romance published by Forever 12 Jun 18

I think Mia Sheridan is one of the top romance writers out there.  She writes angst like nobody else, and when you read a Mia Sheridan book, you know you are going to be put through the wringer.  I tend to really dive into and really “feel” many a book, so when reading one of hers, I often have to take breaks and play games on my IPad or sometimes switch to another book for a while just because the wringer is a bit too tight.  And just to make it clear, this is a Very Good Thing in my book.  While almost uncomfortable with some of her books, they are most memorable and highest rated.  So going in I thought More Than Words would have the same effect on me, and, sure enough, it did.
