REVIEW REVISIT: Big Bad Wolf by Christine Warren

Book CoverDevon’s review of Big Bad Wolf (The Others, Book 8) by Christine Warren
Paranormal Romance released by St. Martin’s 29 Sep 09
Original review posted 25 Nov 09

Christine Warren’s The Others series is a set of sexy, lighthearted romps based mostly in Manhattan. They follow an urban group of various supernatural races as they prepare for, and go through with, making themselves known to the human world. After awhile, I find that the heroines are a bit too similar to each other, but, otherwise, these books are a reliable choice for a fun read that’ll keep your interest for a few hours.

REVIEW: Guarding Gwen by Cynthia Eden

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Guarding Gwen (Wilde Ways, Book 2) by Cynthia Eden
Contemporary Romance published by Hocus Pocus Publishing 26 Mar 19

I’ve been enjoying Cynthia Eden’s books for the last year or so, and this one is no exception. Not quite as good as her Lazarus Rising series, but still a good read and I’m sure the others in series will be just as good when I get to them – despite the fact I began with Book 2.

REVIEW: Lady Notorious by Theresa Romain

Book Cover Stevie‘s review of Lady Notorious (Royal Rewards, Book 4) by Theresa Romain
Historical Romance published by Zebra 26 Feb 19

I’ve been greatly enjoying the Royal Rewards series and was delighted to learn that this latest instalment concerns the female half of a duo we encountered in the previous book: Cassandra Benton, who works unofficially as a Bow Street Runner alongside her twin brother, Charles, who is gainfully employed by that fine establishment. The pair also carry out private investigative assignments, and it’s on one of those that we first encounter them this time around. Many years ago, the Duke of Ardmore entered into a tontine with nine of his friends: an investment scheme in which the bulk of the money will eventually be inherited by the last surviving member. Now the duke’s son, George, Lord Northbrook, suspects someone in the group may be trying to hasten the deaths of the other men. George, therefore, is paying Cass and Charles to pose as servants in the household of the next potential victim and find out what’s afoot. All well and good, except Charles is flirting with the lady of the house, and Cass keeps finding herself in awkward situations with George. And then Charles falls out of a window.

REVIEW: Chasing Vengeance by Katie Reus

Book CoverSandy M’s review of Chasing Vengeance (Redemption Harbor, Book 7) by Katie Reus
Romantic Suspense published by KR Press 9 Apr 19

I have enjoyed every book in this series, so I’m sorry to see the end come. But Katie Reus has given readers a terrific ride with the men of Redemption Harbor finding their perfect partners while keeping the world safe. I am definitely looking forward to see what Ms. Reus will dive into next. I began reading her with this series and she has become a favorite in a very short period of time.

REVIEW: American Witch by Thea Harrison

Book CoverVeena’s review of American Witch (American Witch Trilogy, Book 1) by Thea Harrison
Paranormal Romance published by Teddy Harrison LLC 29 Apr 19

Molly Sullivan has been an ideal wife, except perhaps in the sex department, as evidenced by the poorly hidden purple panties she finds in her marital bed. This is not an ideal situation, and the timing couldn’t be worse since Molly is in the midst of preparing to host a party for the managing partners of her husband’s law firm.  As Molly pulls the panties and stuffs them in her husband’s martini glass, asks for a divorce, and storms out leaving a roomful of stunned guests behind, I could already feel the pulse-pounding start of a book I wouldn’t be able to put down.

REVIEW REVISIT: Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean

Book CoverC2’s review of Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake (Love by Numbers, Book 1) by Sarah MacLean
Historical Romance published by Avon 30 Mar 10
Original review posted 27 Jun 10

Ever get tired of following everybody’s rules? Dissatisfied with a life of bowing to society’s pressure and always doing what is expected of her, Lady Calpurnia Hartwell decides a change is in order. She has an epiphany: ”…somehow, she had lost her way and, without realizing it, she had chosen this staid, boring life instead of a different, more adventurous one.” So, after years of boredom and unsatisfactory Seasons, Callie (thank heavens for nicknames!) makes a list of all the things she would like to do – things that Society says a true lady would never do – and sets out to do them. The first item on her list? ”Kiss someone – passionately.” And Callie has a certain someone in mind.

REVIEW: A Chapter on Love by Laney Webber

Book CoverStevie‘s review of A Chapter on Love by Laney Webber
Contemporary Lesbian Romance published by Bold Strokes Books 12 Feb 19

While I’m a fan of romances with at least one older protagonist, I’m always a little wary of those in which the feelings, if not the relationship, started when the younger protagonist was both a young adult and in a subordinate position to the older one. On the other hand, I love bookstore romances and so was prepared to conquer my worries over the origins of our heroines’ involvement in order to read about their own love of books and the physical places where books are sold.

REVIEW: Driftwood Bay by Irene Hannon

Book CoverVeena’s review of Driftwood Bay (Hope Harbor, Book 5) by Irene Hannon
Contemporary Romance published by Revell 02 Apr 19

This has been an adventuresome month for me. I’ve come out of my rut by experimenting with new authors and new voices. Ms. Hannon and Driftwood Bay have been a very pleasant surprise in my journey, and I hope you will find the same if you pick this book up and read it. Clearly this is part of a series, but I had no trouble at all jumping into the story without reading the earlier books in the series.
