Veena’s review of Left Behind (Jubilee, Kentucky, Book 4) by Sharon Sala
Romantic Suspense published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 09 Jul 24

This is a fast-moving story with a strong emotional impact.  Wiley Pope is a police officer who’s definitely sowed his oats. so much so that when he meets the love of his life, they come back to haunt him, and his relationship is toast before it begins. Well, not quite total toast, since Wiley and Linette will get another chance and more curve balls which make for excellent reading.

Wiley walks into the bank to stop a robbery in process.  Linette, his love interest, also happens to be at the bank when he saves the day. Can they put their aborted love story back on track? It sure seems like they can, but then a series of communication snafus seem to get in the way – but, fortunately, they sort it out.

Just when it seems things are going more smoothly, a woman shows up at the Jubilee police station claiming that Aaron Pope fathered her daughter and disappeared on her. Fortunately, Wiley is on the scene and knows the child is their half-sister.  In the process of protecting the child from the conversation, he takes her to the breakroom and falls in love.

The child will clutch at your heartstrings with her story of all that she owns packed in a pillowcase and a request for a pillow of her own.  Can Wiley and Linette’s budding romance sustain him adopting a child and focusing his energies on making his half-sister comfortable?

What a lovely story, and, clearly, the little girl steals the show with her fears and desires that all her newfound happiness be protected at all costs. An absolutely winner that stole my heart.

Grade: A

Summary:

Everything that was lost will be found again.

Jubilee PD Officer Wiley Pope thinks he’s ruined things with Linette Elgin. He hasn’t seen or heard from the local nurse since their first date went disastrously wrong. But when Wiley walks in on a bank robbery with Linette as one of the hostages, his training and protective instincts kick into full gear. A heroic bullet to his armor-protected chest is enough for Linette to forgive Wiley’s past mistakes and be willing to begin anew.

While his love for Linette grows daily, Wiley finds himself in over his head when a murder investigation is linked to Pope Mountain. If that wasn’t enough, a woman from Wiley’s father’s past abandons her seven-year-old daughter at the police station in an attempted money scheme. But the minute the woman signs over her parental rights, Wiley and Linette welcome the wary little girl into their family and show her what real love looks like.
