Veena’s review of The Traitor (Fire’s Edge, Book 6) by Abigail Owen
Paranormal Romance published by Entangled Amara 16 Aug 21
Known as traitor to some, savior to others, Rune walks a lonely road until a human woman comes looking to him for help in saving her adopted dragon parents. Suddenly his dragon perks up and takes an interest in this woman, who was fated to be a dragon’s mate but lost her mate as a child. Is she his reward for all the hard years that Rune has endured?
Haydyn has heard the bad press about Rune and is puzzled when her adoptive father urges her to go to him for help. If she had anyone else she could have gone to for assistance, she might have avoided Rune, and if Rune had not gone back to his abandoned cave in the mountain, he would have missed her. Coincidences? Or fate’s way of ensuring the two meet and have a future?
Hadyn and Rune are not safe, and soon hostile dragons are hunting them even as they attempt to make their way across South America to Rune’s allies, so they can execute a rescue of Hadyn’s parents. While on this trek, their sexual chemistry is off the charts and they both do their best to resist. Even with his dragon’s urging, Rune is not going to try to mate with Hadyn and cause her to burn up.
I enjoyed the fast-moving action, the sexual thread running through the story, and a visit with all the characters in the series. Like most paranormal series, some things seem implausible, but since it’s a parallel universe written out of the writer’s imagination, I just take it in my stride and don’t let it distract me from the main story line.
All in all, a great addition to the series. I believe it was in another book where I read why Rune left his clan and became an exile to help right the wrongs that were happening amongst the dragons. This books fills in those details, so all is good.
I really do enjoy this dragon series from the author and hope to continue to see more dragons and their stories.
Summary:
Decades ago, rogue dragon shifter Rune Abaddon took a stand against the decaying, corrupt systems governing their people. He now uses his bad-ass reputation to protect the innocent as it all comes crashing down. But he’s pushed the limits one too many times. His hideout is destroyed, his few allies are scattered and hiding, and the Alliance has placed a dead-or-alive bounty on his head, making him the most wanted dragon in the western hemisphere.
And then the most enticing woman he’s ever met barges into his mountain, demanding an audience.
Hadyn Reece’s future was ripped away long ago. The man fated to be her mate was murdered alongside her parents before Hadyn was old enough to be turned, leaving her to be raised and trained by her dead mate’s parents in the dragon shifter world. Now, the Alliance has come for the only family she has left. It’s a good thing she was raised by dragons, because the only one who can help her save them is a traitor she’d be smart to fear.
Especially when his dragon decides she’s theirs.
