Sandy M’s review of We Shouldn’t by Vi Keeland
Contemporary Romance published by Amazon Digital Services 19 Jan 19
This is the second time I’ve picked up a book by authors our own Kristie J has given high marks to. I have to say once again I was pleasantly surprised. This book didn’t blow me away, but I had fun with it and enjoyed the characters. The beginning of the story is especially amusing.
That scene is mentioned in the blurb of the book, so I won’t go into a description, only to say it’s so much funnier to get things started between Bennett and Annalise. She doesn’t know she’s being watched during one of her worst mornings ever, and when she finds out Bennett is her main rival for their position that has been merged into one with their two companies coming together, that’s also another scene that will keep you smiling.
They are both great at their jobs, but with their companies’ merger, only one will be still employed in San Francisco while the other will be shipped off to Texas. Of course, each believes they have what it takes to outsmart and outwork the other, and they do a good job of that – until things between them subtly and imperceptibly change and they begin to look at their situation with new eyes – both in the bedroom and out. Bennett’s bad boy and unscrupulous reputation don’t mean much after getting to know Annalise. She is as organized as the day is long, and they both try to keep their good hearts hidden as long as possible.
Now, all of this isn’t to say they don’t have to work hard to get through their baggage to make things work between them in the end. They both have issues, but the reader gets a sexy and emotional ride as they come together to make that happily ever after a reality.
Summary:
Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning.
I was late for the first day at my new job–a job I’d now have to compete for even though I’d already worked eight years to earn it, because of an unexpected merger.
While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons.
She’d ticketed a long line of cars–except for the Audi parked in front of me, which happened to be the same make and model as mine.
Annoyed, I decided to regift my ticket to the car that had evaded a fine. Chances were, the owner would pay it and be none the wiser.
Except, I accidentally broke the windshield wiper while slipping the ticket onto the car’s window.
Seriously, my day couldn’t get any worse.
Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the elevator. We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies.
You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity.
His heated stare left me flushed when I stepped off the elevator.
Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all.
Or so I thought.
Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competition.
The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heated stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction. It was because he’d seen me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival.
There’s a fine line between love and hate–and we shouldn’t cross it.
We shouldn’t–but straddling that line could be so much fun.
