Kaitlyn‘s review of The Devils by Joe Abercrombie
Fantasy Audiobook published by Tor Books 13 May 25
The Devils is a highly entertaining medieval times Suicide Squad. There is never a dull moment.
A ragtag team of convicts, including a vampire, a necromancer, a werewolf, an elf, a knight who can’t die, a jack of all trades, and an ill-prepared monk, are on a holy mission to safely deliver a thief, who’s actually the heir to the empire of Troy, across Europe.
It is a little too ridiculous at times and probably could have been a tad shorter, but I had a great time with it. I’ll definitely read the next book and will probably try some of Abercrombie’s other books at some point.
I really enjoyed this audiobook and would absolutely recommend it.
Summary:
Holy work sometimes requires unholy deeds.
Brother Diaz has been summoned to the Sacred City, where he is certain a commendation and grand holy assignment awaits him. But his new flock is made up of unrepentant murderers, practitioners of ghastly magic, and outright monsters. The mission he is tasked with will require bloody measures from them all in order to achieve its righteous ends.
Elves lurk at our borders and hunger for our flesh, while greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions and comfort. With a hellish journey before him, it’s a good thing Brother Diaz has the devils on his side.
