Veena’s review of Ancient Magic (Magic for Hire, Book 2) by Alexandra Ivy
Paranormal Romance published by Kensington 23 Jul 24

Micha and Skye are kidnapped from New York and taken to New Orleans, in search of an ancient artifact.  Skye sees visions of the world erupting in flames as she and Micha race against time to prevent this disaster.

Skye has come to support her best friend Peri as she and her husband, the leader of the demon world in New York, host members of the vampire cabal who have come to ensure that Peri’s ability to tap into the Wild Magic does not threaten the demon world, vampires in particular.  Along the way, Skye gets sucked into a plot to dominate the demon world, while cabal member Micha is kidnapped to provide access to a sword that will pave the way.

After escaping, Micha and Skye partner up to figure out what’s going on and how to prevent Armageddon.  Of course, they didn’t figure that in addition to all the excitement and adrenaline, there is off-the-charts chemistry that flares between them.  The action and the unfolding story will keep you enthralled and, of course, as always, rooting for the good guys. I certainly never saw some of the twists and turns in the plot as it unfolds.

I am so enjoying this series and highly recommend that you read the first book, Wild Magic, before reading this one.  I can’t wait for the next chapter in the series.

Grade: A

Summary:

The Vampire Cabal meets only under the direst circumstances. But since Skye Claremont’s coven proved wild magic has returned, the cabal has gathered in New York City to decide the fate of the powerful mages.

Skye doubts her oracular powers can help. After ten years indentured to a demon gang, paying off her father’s gambling debts with visions, her freedom has come despite her weak abilities, not because of them. But when her father sends a text to demand a meeting, she doesn’t need to read the future to know trouble will follow.

The demons want her to kidnap Micha, the reclusive, fearsome leader of the New Orleans vampire cabal. As if a low-voltage witch like her could succeed. But when Skye looks into Micha’s eyes, she sees certain doom if she doesn’t take him to their stronghold after all. Spellbound more by beauty and intrigue than magic, the vampire follows her into the dark of a demon cell. When the door slams behind them, they’ll have to unravel the tangled threads of prophecy and politics that make the way forward immeasurably dangerous. But it’s desire that could undo them both . . .
