Kaitlyn‘s review of Dance of Thieves (Dance of Thieves, Book 1) by Mary E. Pearson
Young Adult Adventure published by Henry Holt & Co. 7 Aug 18

Overall, I enjoyed this story. The world building in the beginning is intense and a little slow. It took me a minute to understand everything, but after about ten chapters, I really got into it.

The enemies to lovers is perfect; the FMC is strong, stubborn, and determined; and the MMC would do anything to keep the ones he loves safe. It has a lot of the fantasy elements I adore.

My main issue is the little bit of magic isn’t really ever explained. Although I hadn’t realized until after I read the duology, there’s a trilogy that takes place before this. I think if I had read that first, the world building wouldn’t have felt so intense. If you’re interested in reading this, you might want to check out The Remnant Chronicles first.
