Veena’s review of 19 Yellow Moon Road (Sisterhood, Book 33) by Fern Michaels
Romantic Suspense published by Zebra 28 Dec 21
Gabby Richardson is a newspaper reporter who has seen too much. She joins the Haven as a means of discovering herself. However, when she is stopped on her way to see her ill mother by the security forces of Haven, her newspaper instincts flare up and she places a call to her friend Maggie Spritzer. As it turns out, those newspaper instincts are right on target.
Soon the ladies of the sisterhood are trying to sniff out what’s going on at the Haven. They discover there is a lot happening. When their wealthy father is sent to prison for financial fraud and their socialite mother escapes to England, Noah and Liam are left to their own resources. Liam is interested in helping people and floats the idea of starting a commune. Noah inadvertently looks for financing for the idea from a corrupt business friend of his father’s.
Now the brothers are involved in drug running and sex trafficking with Haven as the front. All of this might have stayed under the surface except for Gabby Richardson and the sisterhood. The story is slow moving, though there is enough suspense to keep things interesting from a reader’s viewpoint. I have not read books in this series for some time, but it appears as though the stories are somewhat formulaic with a different cause blended in to generate a new story.
Summary:
The Sisterhood is reuniting to investigate The Haven, a suspicious spiritual organization that’s more dangerous cult than caring commune…
Maggie Spritzer’s nose for a story doesn’t just make her a top-notch newspaper editor, it also tells her when to go the extra mile for a friend. When she gets a strange message from her journalism pal, Gabby Richardson, Maggie knows her services are needed. Gabby has become involved with The Haven, a commune that promises to guide its members toward a more spiritually fulfilling life. But Gabby’s enthusiasm has turned to distrust ever since she was refused permission to leave the compound to visit her sick mother.
Maggie wants to learn more about The Haven, and the Sisterhood is eager to help. It turns out The Haven’s founders are the sons of a disgraced Chicago businessman in prison for running a Ponzi scheme. They also have connections to a Miami billionaire with dubious sidelines.
