Veena’s review of The Rebellious Rancher (Millers of Morgan Valley, Book 3) by Kate Pearce
Contemporary Western Romance published by Zebra Books 28 Jul 20
Ben is feeling unwanted and at odds with his family. Despite it being one of the busiest times on the ranch, he jumps at the chance to guide beautiful Silver Meadows on a trail ride. The eventful few days challenge them both in different ways, creating an indelible bond. When nature throws down the ultimate challenge, they emerge stronger than ever. But is there a future for him somewhere between Hollywood and Morgantown?
From the get-go Ben challenges Silver to own the trail riding experience and make it her own. Even as he would do things for other groups, he makes Silver fend for herself and feel the stronger for it. Soon he discovers that in reality Silver is more than a pretty face, and, besides, she does not have a drug habit as her father has warned. As they come closer together on the trail, they share intimate secrets, yet there are secrets that Ben hangs on to which are explosive and will take readers by surprise when they finally do come out.
I have to be honest, and at the risk of **spoilers** I have to say that I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop with her father, given how the story plays out with his character. But that too will end up not quite being what you think it is. The other character who surprised me is Ben’s father, who is a gruff drill sergeant with apparently a heart of a marshmallow. Who figured.
All in all, I totally enjoyed this story. I believe it might even be my favorite in the series so far.
Summary:
Attachment to the land, hard work, and community, sets the folks of Morgantown apart from the everyday, and always brings them back to the ranch—where they might even find love . . .
After his father decides to leave the ranch to his older brother, usually calm, steadfast Ben Miller struggles to deal with his resentment. When he’s invited to develop a trail riding experience on the Morgans’ dude ranch, Ben jumps at the chance. Soon he’s assigned a mysterious client, an actress whose family secretly wants her removed from influences in LA. Ben’s determined to teach her to fend for herself. But he quickly discovers she’s more than a pampered pretty face . . .
Silver Meadow believes she’s preparing for a serious dramatic role—one that will free her from her controlling parents. She’s certainly not going to be controlled by Ben, especially when he takes her out in the middle of nowhere to learn how to survive. Yet gradually, far from her cell phone, Silver begins to open up to him about her life—and finds they have more in common than they thought. Soon a romance blossoms—but can a jet-setting movie star and a homebody cowboy find the best of both worlds? . . .
