Ellie has managed to find a way to accept the unpalatable truths that are Devlin Saint, but more is to come. But Devlin is still keeping secrets. Ellie is an investigative reporter, and, even if she is no longer officially the journalist who will publish the Devlin Saint expose, she doesn’t give up pursuing her leads and trying to get behind the truth of her own past, exposing long-buried secrets. Clearly she’s rattling some cages, because threats against her are coming out into the open. Both for her own safety and protection and the sake of friendship, Ellie brings in her long time friend and ace local detective into the circle of knowledge and shares all she’s discovered as well as Devlin’s truths with him.
I have to say I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop when a fellow reporter, whom she doesn’t get along with, agrees to help her with a software program that will allow her to clean up a picture of a vigilante whom she suspects of being Devlin’s best friend. That shoe might still drop in the next chapter of this story, but for now he’s cautiously a helpful comrade. However, the results of the software program are devastating and start the fall of the dominos that have long lasting consequences and the potential to break her fragile relationship with Devlin.
The story is edgy and exciting as it unfolds. Clearly Ellie did not know her uncle well despite his care and attention of her. Clearly Ellie doesn’t know Devlin as well as she thinks despite the truths he’s shared with her. I absolutely can’t wait for the next chapter. Will Ellie jump off the cliff with Devlin straight into the darkness or will she keep sacrifice love for her principles? I’m absolutely chafing at the bit to see how the next chapter in their story unfolds.
