Veena’s review of Lethal Game (Ghost Walker, Book 16) by Christine Feehan
Paranormal Romance published by Berkley 03 Mar 20
As a para-rescue and a ghost walker, Malichai Fortunes jumps into hot zones to rescue soldiers under fire. This story opens with a particularly volatile rescue where Malichai is badly injured, barely escaping with his life. Now on the recovery path, he’s off to San Diego to recuperate and rebuild his strength. Get set, go for an exciting R&R adventure Ghost Walker style.
Amaryllis works at the inn where Malichai is staying. Soon he is underfoot helping wash dishes, fixing the dishwasher, and doing other honey-dos around the place, while trying to grow his friendship with the beautiful lady. Soon Malichai’s instincts are buzzing. There is definitely something fishy going on and it’s not just the ocean right outside their door or the fact that Malichai’s leg isn’t recovering as fast as it should.
This is one of my favorite books in the series as emotions are blended so seamlessly to humanize these rough soldiers, many of whom have painful and tough childhoods. Whitney’s experiments with breeding and the orphan children he uses to advance his studies and knowledge of science and human physiology bring a thread of horror and reality into the story, which will continue to have far-reaching consequences into the future. For the first time, Ms. Feehan puts a name to some of the psychic healing abilities that the team and even Amaryllis possess and how rare and fortunate the Ghost Walkers are to have access to them, particularly Malichai, who owes his life.
Murder and mayhem show up on the California beach, bringing Malichai’s brothers to the fore in an attempt to find answers and stop the bleeding. The women and their talents are formidable weapons in the Ghost Walker team’s arsenal and I don’t believe I’ve seen it deployed as effectively as it is in this book. Can’t wait for the last Fortune brother to find his soulmate. He’s going to be swallowing a lot of that teasing that he’s been doling out to his brothers, I’m sure.
Summary:
When Malichai Fortunes attacks a problem, he does it full force—a habit that earns the GhostWalker a painful injury and a forced vacation in San Diego, California. With nothing but physical therapy on the horizon, Malichai is starting to get restless…until a striking blue-eyed blonde makes all his senses come alive.
Amaryllis is kind and warm and sees beyond Malichai’s rough exterior, but he can tell there’s something she’s hiding. Her innate healing abilities indicate she might be a GhostWalker—albeit an untrained one. Malichai doesn’t think their paths crossing is anything more than coincidence, but he can sense that one wrong word could send Amaryllis running.
When strange events at his temporary retreat put Malichai on high alert, he knows he won’t be able to deal with the threat and keep his woman safe in his weakened state. But calling in his brothers means telling Amaryllis what he really is, and revealing that he knows the truth about her too.…
