Sandy M’s review of Thunderbolt (Miranda Chase, Book 2) by M.L. Buchman
Military Technothriller published by Buchman Bookworks 17 Dec 19
Miranda Chase and her team have become a favorite of mine since starting this series. She is a high-functioning autistic NTSB investigator who always solves her cases. The crashes she’s called in on are complicated and over the top, which I love – and I don’t care how inaccurate some reviews out there think the stories are. Mr. Buchman pulls me in with characters and storyline every time. For me, sometimes the more far-fetched, the better the time I have reading.
As I have said in other reviews in this series, there are good portions of technical information that go over my head. Mr. Buchman is quite knowledgeable and he incorporates layman explanations as much as possible. However, none of that reduces my enjoyment of the plot, because the characters make up for it just as much as the mystery to be solved does. So don’t let that deter you to begin this series. It’s well worth it.
The Air Force is losing a number of A-10 Thunderbolt Warthogs, one after the other, and Miranda’s team gets started to get to the bottom of the crashes. The investigation becomes more action packed as they slowly reveal more clues toward resolution. I really enjoy the chemistry and camaraderie between Miranda, Holly, Mike, and Jeremey, as well as how they surround Miranda when needed. Another favorite character is General Drake Nason, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs. This book begins to cement relationships, and when that continues through the next two books, Nason’s is one I thoroughly enjoyed, though Miranda is a surprise when someone from her past reappears.
Governmental and international bad guys play a big part in the books, so it’s always satisfying when they get a bit of a comeuppance and some are still able to live another day to wreak havoc. Thank goodness for Miranda and her cohorts to vanquish the evil greediness that runs amuck where it’s least expected. I’ve enjoyed every wild ride they’ve gone on so far.
