Sandy M’s review of Under a Firefly Moon (Firefly Lake, Book 1) by Donna Kauffman
Contemporary Romance published by Zebra Books 28 Jan 20

It’s been a while since I’ve read Donna Kauffman, so when I saw she’d started a spinoff from her Blue Hollow Falls series, I figured it was time to read her again. I’m glad I did – I thoroughly enjoyed all of these characters, despite the fact this is the first time I’ve met them, having not read any of the BHF series. Wyatt and Cheyenne have a past, and a close friend of theirs decides it’s time they face one another again and get on with the joy of living – together. I’m also glad I read this one now, because it is the first and the last in this series – Ms. Kauffman recently passed away. The other three future heroines we meet here will have to live as they are here in our hearts and minds forever.

When Wyatt comes to retrieve his horse from Cheyenne’s lavender farm, neither expect the attraction to be as strong as ever between them. It’s Chey of course, who fights that attraction the hardest and the longest. She’s finally on her feet after a tragic event in her past. She’s where she wants to be, in a peaceful and ideal place with friends she loves and trusts. She thinks Wyatt will do whatever necessary to take care of his animal and be on his way. Well, she thought wrong.

Wyatt discovers the ladies at the lavender farm are facing certain issues, so along with his feelings for Chey, he wants to help. He has the ways and means to aid them, something Chey knows nothing about. And I love that part of Wyatt. He’s so totally different from the boy Chey used to know. A lean, mean, rugged man of his own now, Wyatt uses his know-how and online popularity to waylay the trouble coming to Firefly Lake.

All of the these ladies are strong and independent, especially after overcoming the bad life has thrown at them. It would have been wonderful to read about each of them. I really enjoyed Vivienne and her mystery man, who ends up being as much a help to the ladies as Wyatt. It does the reader’s heart good to know that in Ms. Kauffman’s talented imagination each of them probably did have their happily ever after, even if we don’t get to read it.

Be sure to pick up this one anyway. It’s definitely worth it.

Grade: B+

Summary:

Blue Hollow Falls may be a small Blue Ridge Mountain town, but it’s big on love—and second chances . . .

When former barrel racer Cheyenne McCafferty left the circuit, she left her past behind too. Now, as part owner of Lavender Blue farm, she’s content rescuing and rehabbing horses, and growing a new business. She’s only got one regret: letting go of Wyatt Reed. When he professed his love, she was too young and foolish to know her heart. After that he disappeared. But when his beloved horse turns up on the auction block, Chey makes a bid and wins more than she bargained for . . .

Chey believed she was ready to face Wyatt again, to explain herself. But seeing the man he’s become, she’s unsure. Gone is the quiet, gentle boy she knew. In his place is a rugged, confident adventurer who’s seen the world. Yet the longer Wyatt sticks around, the clearer it is that the feelings of their youth aren’t so easily dismissed now that they’re adults. In fact, the timing may be just right to make the dreams they’ve shared under a firefly moon come true . . .
