Sandy M’s review of Drone (Miranda Chase, Book 1) by M.L. Buchman
Technothriller published by Buchman Bookworks 19 Nov 19
I began reading M.L. Buchman with his Night Stalkers series a few years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed these military romantic suspense stories. Then as happens with most series, at least for me, I got away from continuing on with it. Now, because there are so many books in the series, I thought I’d try his new Miranda Chase series because there’s only three books so far. I’m very glad I did. Though there is no romance in these stories, the great characters and plot twists and turns will keep you reading.
I really like Miranda. She’s an NTSB investigator, one of the agency’s best, if not the very best. She lost her parents in a plane crash years ago, and she’s dedicated her life trying to prevent others from going through the same trauma. She’s highly intelligent and detail oriented, but she has a bit of difficulty interacting with other people. Currently she’s been dispatched to Groom Lake, Nevada – Area 51 – to investigate a helicopter crash. A new team has been sent to assist – Holly, Jeremy, and Mike – all terrific characters in their own right.
At the same time China has also lost a premiere plane and pilot. The story looks into both US and Chinese political machinations as Miranda continues to utilize her logic to come to a conclusion to explain the crash and eventually the Chinese disappearance. Several Washington DC players make appearances, one trying to cover everything up, another working to make it all right, and even the POTUS making sure his faith in those below him is not misplaced. Aside from Miranda’s team – and Miranda herself – my favorite character is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Drake Nason.
It comes to light everything revolves around drones that are secretly being dispatched in a very unusual and dangerous way, and it all sounds like something a government would try, no matter the consequences. I enjoyed all the technology Mr. Buchman introduces, whether believable or not. It’s fascinating reading, no doubt about it, especially put together with nefarious concepts by those who are only after personal power and gain. Miranda and her team do a bang-up job getting to the nitty-gritty, exposing all the nasty details.
Thunderbolt is the next book and it’s loaded on my reader. Miranda Chase is already becoming a favorite kick-ass heroine for me, and I’m anxious to see what danger is going to be thrown her way next. I’m very happy Mr. Buchman is now publishing his own books. His fans will be rolling in great stories for some time to come.
