Dinca’s review of Her Cowboy Hero (Cowboys of Ransom Creek, Book 1) by Debra Clopton
Contemporary Western Romance published by DCP Publishing 20 Jun 17
Her Cowboy Hero is the first book in the Ransom Creek Series, which I will definitely continue to read. It’s a light, clean, and enjoyable read with the promise of more of these delightful characters in the series.
Lori falls in love hard with the son of the ranch foreman at an early age. It’s fine as a child, but all grown up, not so much. She leaves home when it is clear she cannot build a life with him. When her father dies and leaves her the ranch, she returns to find her lost love, Trip Jensen, the new foreman and business partner in the rodeo stock supply business.
It was all child’s play growing up with his father’s boss’ daughter, until Trip’s father started recognizing the consequences in their teen years. When his father calls Trip’s attention to it, he backs away, leaving his heart and mind in shreds. He swears he will get in a position someday to ask her to marry him. When an opportunity arises to join a partnership with her father, instead of just being his employer, he jumps at it. Then her father dies.
With Lori and Trip thrust into their new relationship as partners in business, as well as an employer and employee relationship, Trip finds he is still in no better position to tell her how he feels. Then someone steals their rodeo stock, along with more cattle stolen from the ranch itself, and this puts their business in jeopardy.
As the mystery unfolds and the stock is recovered, Lori and Trip find their way around their sordid past and manage to find their happily ever after. I can see Ms. Clopton becoming one of my favorite authors. I am giving this story a B because the names are a little confusing. I am also hoping for more back story about the area in the next book.
Grade: B
