I’ve been in a cowboy mood lately, and Lorelei James is one of the best when it comes to creating sexy, sensitive, and alpha cowboys. Justin Donohue is a rodeo world champion at a crossroads of sorts in his life when he meets Callie. She may be young, but she’s full of sass, just the perfect foil for the washed-up cowboy – at least that’s what she believes he is.
It’s full-blown lust between these two during Callie’s bar-top dance when they spy one another. Both are willing to have a no-strings fling until the time comes for them to go their separate ways in a few months. But their relationship is set in cement from that first unsuccessful bedroom romp to them admitting their feelings after getting to know one another through friendship, sex, and finally love.
Justin has to come to grips with Callie’s age. He’s nearly a decade older than she is. They both have a barrier up where feelings are concerned. And Callie, as confident and strong as she is, has to work through new vulnerabilities when it comes to Justin. In usual Lorelei James style, there’s plenty of fun and sometimes unintentional hurtful banter, lots of steamy and sizzling lovin’, and we get to meet up again with a couple of Rough Riders characters along the way.
Though this story is novella length, Ms. James packs every page to the brim with varying emotion, so you’re left…wound tight.
