Sandy M’s review of The Hunter Brothers Complete Collection by M.S. Parker
Contemporary Romance published by Belmonte Publishing 21 Sep 18
Though I’ve not read M.S. Parker before, getting into this compilation about brothers was a no-brainer for me. I so enjoy books about brothers. And these four siblings did not let me down one bit.
His Obsession
Jax and his brothers were raised by their grandfather after their parents and sister were killed in a car accident. As soon as the other three were able to take off, they all went their separate. Jax, however, stayed put, buying his grandfather’s mansion. When the old man passes away, Jax calls his brothers home for the funeral. Little do they know Grandpa has put some conditions on their inheritance, and none of them are happy about it.
Wanting to run his own BDSM club, Jax finds the perfect property in Boston to make that happen. But the owner, Syll, throws his very generous offer back at him. This is her legacy from her father, and though the business hasn’t seen better days for a while now, she and the bar are not for sale.
Jax backs down because he’s found something he wants more than the property – Syll herself. Sparks fly between them from the first, even though it’s not a great initial meeting between them. Then when another offer comes in and crazy and dangerous things begin to happen to Syll, the story ramps up another notch, including some sexy and intense moments between these two and a mysterious request from their grandfather about their parents’ death, asking them to investigate that night so long ago. I like that story arc a lot, along with the brothers trying to fit together as they did in their younger days.
A terrific beginning to the series that made me want to move on to the next book right away. Good thing it was on my reader and ready to go!
His Control
Both Cai and Addison work for the CDC. Cai is well-known in his field, and when Addison learns she’s going to be interning with him, she’s beside herself. Neither of them expect the attraction that develops between them. But it all gets complicated when Addison decides to lose her virgin status at a local BDSM club and sleeps with Mr. K. Imagine the surprise all around when it’s discovered Cai and Mr. K are one and the same. Sleeping with your boss isn’t the smartest thing to have done.
They do try to keep their relationship professional and have pretty good control until they head to Texas where an outbreak has occurred. As they work together under difficult circumstances, they learn more about each other than they would in any other situation. That leads Cai to the realization that living without Addison is not an option. His brother Jax makes contact, reaching out with an olive branch, and Cai begins to think perhaps a life with Addison is possible. But will she be willing to leave everything behind to be with him permanently?
I really enjoyed how different this book is from the first, with only the BDSM aspect – and the romance – in common. I also love that the brothers are each coming to the realization that they need to be a family again. We are also getting a little closer to solving the mysterious deaths of the brothers’ parents.
His Hunger
Next up is Slade, a DEA agent, and Cheyenne, a waitress at a strip club and who has inherited her drug addict mother’s huge debt while taking care of her younger brother. The owner of the club is as sleazy as they come and is trying to force Cheyenne to strip for payback. Slade meets Cheyenne there and knows something isn’t quite right behind the scenes, so he decides to investigate the place.
I like the spin here that Slade is a sadistic dominant, something I’ve not read before. At first I wasn’t sure about that, but Ms. Parker does an excellent job taking the reader through his predilections. Cheyenne is perfect for him when they discover she’s a masochistic submissive. Talk about a match made in heaven.
Slade wants Cheyenne to go with him to Boston and his brothers to keep her safe, but she’s taking her responsibility very seriously, knowing that a drug dealer isn’t someone to mess with. She’s nothing like her mother, though other people find that hard to believe – you know, the apple and tree and all that. But Cheyenne is a strong female lead and works well with Slade.
The mystery surrounding their parents continues, heating up the closer they get to some answers. So you can bet I plowed full steam ahead into the fourth book to get those answers too.
His Secret
Slade is the youngest brother and the one who has been hurt the most after the loss of his parents and grandmother, who helped raise him and his siblings after the accident in which he was the only survivor. Feelings of abandonment and loneliness are hard to get over, and Slade has taken all of this to heart, living like a hermit. Being around people just isn’t for him.
Then there’s Brea, who is so very different from Slade. She’s happy and light and airy. She has a successful business in town, as well as online. Her parents have purchased the property next to Blake’s and he’s not happy when he finds her on his property. Of course, he’s so worked up and lashes out that she pushes back and their attraction is born fast and hot. Their banter is a lot of fun as they go from not liking each other all that much to some great sex play.
Slade’s brothers and significant others end up staying at the retreat Brea’s parents open, hoping to pull their last sibling back into the family. I really enjoyed those scenes with all the brothers, even if Slade finds it difficult to believe they can have any type of relationship after so many years. But it’s Brea who eventually gets him to realize it is possible.
All questions concerning their parents are finally answered, and they all will have a stake in the new BDSM club they’ll frequent quite a bit now they’ve found their perfect partners. I really love these brothers a lot and I’m glad I got to meet each of them one after the other to keep their story going until the very end. I will be checking out more of Ms. Parker’s books in the future.
Summary:
JAX: I’ve always done what’s expected of me, run Hunter Enterprises the way Grandfather wanted, but when I stepped into Club Privé, I saw something I wanted for myself. I wouldn’t let anything keep me from bringing that world of decadence and sex to my home city, Boston.
CAI: My entire life has always been focused on accomplishments, working myself ragged in the hopes of getting out from underneath my big brother’s shadow. Now, Grandfather’s gone, and my relationship with my brothers is at a breaking point, leaving me to decide what’s truly important.
SLADE: I was known as “The Peacemaker”, the laid-back brother who never felt emotions as deeply as everyone else. Except I did. I’d just always hide them. Not anymore. After she walked into my life, all I want now is to become the man she needs me to be. If only she’ll trust me enough to tell me who that is.
BLAKE: I’ve been angry for as long as I can remember. Angry about life, about what I’ve lost. It’s my only defense, my only protection. No one has ever been able to break through. Then I meet her. The strong and beautiful Brea who won’t let me retreat into anger. If I just can open up my walls for her, I know she can change my life.
