Veena’s review of Hard Night (11th Hour, Book 3) by Jackie Ashenden
Romantic Suspense published by Kensington 27 Nov 18
This is my first book by Jackie Ashenden and will not, by all means, be the last. I thoroughly enjoyed the bad ass 11th Hour team, though most of the story is focused on Jacob and Faith. While this is the third book in the series, I had no problem diving in and enjoying this story, even as I plan to go back and get the earlier books in the series.
Faith has no memory of her past but has settled into a role with the 11th Hour team, after Jacob Night rescues her. Of course, his rescue is hardly altruistic, since Faith’s lost memories are a link to Jacob’s brother, whom he has been separated from since the age of ten. When an attack on Jacob and Faith leaves his limo driver dead, Jacob steps up the dangerous game and attempts to force Faith’s memories.
Faith, as it turns out, is lethal and well trained, possibly a CIA asset. She quickly turns the tables on her mentor and goes out to seek answers that her fragmented memory is still keeping hidden. Jacob and Faith, or her alter ego Joana, the bad-ass CIA agent, give readers a run for their money, even as their back stories add an emotional depth to the story that takes it from simply good to outstanding. From sexual chemistry, emotional intensity, to suspenseful twists and turns and enough action to keep the adrenaline going, this story is a winner.
I’m glad to have found a new author to add to my reading list.
Summary:
It’s their pleasure to serve . . .
Made up of former soldiers, the men of the 11th Hour play by their own rules to protect the innocent, capture the guilty, and stay in fighting shape for whatever—and whoever—comes their way . . .
Jacob Night, ex-Black Ops, owner of a billion-dollar security company, and leader of the 11th Hour, spends his life completing dangerous missions for others. But there’s one personal mission he has yet to complete: Finding his missing brother, who was betrayed by the woman he should have been able to trust. But when he finally tracks down his brother’s ex, there’s one surprise: she can’t remember a thing.
Faith has no memory of who she is. She can’t remember life before she came to work for Jacob Night, and she’s not sure she wants to. But when she and Jacob are ambushed by men who have come to kill her for sins she can’t recall committing, she has no choice but to face the past. Yet once she does, and Jacob’s identity—and her own—come to light, they may not survive with their lives intact, let alone their hearts.
