Dinca’s review of Gabe (Alvarez Security, Book 1) by MaryAnn Jordan
Romantic Suspense published by Maryann Litton 29 Mar 15
Dumpster diving, pixies, and ex-Army Special Forces? Sure, I’ll read that. Sounds interesting, and I was not disappointed.
Who would think the love of your life would be a dumpster diver? But as soon as she showed up, she disappeared. Gabe can’t forget the life shinning in her eyes, which is more of an attraction than her beauty. Disenchanted with his current lifestyle, he pursues her. Twice she slips by without his knowing her name.
Jennifer, a social worker for senior services, concentrates on a senior housing project funded by a grant. She also has guardianship of her eight-year-old brother. Jennifer is a single woman with a lot on her plate and no time for anything personal. All of her efforts go into caring for her brother and seniors in the housing project.
The attraction between Gabe and Jennifer is sizzling. Gabe’s frustration over her innocent outlook on life is maxed to the limit. Jennifer, on the other hand, sees the good in everything.
This book is a perfect example of real estate being a cesspool of evil dealings when greedy people stop at nothing to get what they want.
I was going to make a comment about Jennifer being ignorant about the evils in the world, when my loving husband reminded me I was too at one time. He tells me those good people do not look for villains around every corner. They see what they feel. Good people see good and bad people just look for the next way they can be bad. Unless you are a good person trained to recognize evil, you will miss it nine times out of ten. On that note, Gabe and his band of brothers are trained to take out evil, so the villain doesn’t have a chance.
I find Ms. Jordan’s creation a very interesting and enjoyable story, being the first book in the Alvarez Security Agency series. However, I don’t know if it’s compelling enough for me to continue with the rest of the series. It might have been had they had not had the fast sex scene too early. It appeared to be thrown in as an afterthought, I thought they were doing well without it. I was not impressed with the jump to eight years later. I know the bad guys were caught, but what was the punishment? Not much of a hurrah. I also felt Jennifer treated Ross more like a five- or six-year-old rather than his advanced age of eight. He would have been better off on the scaffold on his own.

Summary:
Alvarez Security Agency
Former Special Forces brothers-in-arms now working together to provide an elite security service in the southern city of Richland.
Gabe Malloy, dedicated to his brothers, spent his weekends with cheap booze and easy women. When some of his friends finally settled down, he wondered if he would ever find the woman of his dreams. He just never expected to encounter her in an alley.
Jennifer Lambert worked as a social worker for the city and would often take food to the elderly residents in her building. One night, in an alley behind a restaurant, she was startled by a tall, handsome man wanting to assist. Giving him the cold shoulder, she left…but dreams of him followed her long into the night.
Gabe knew the independent Jennifer was a woman worthy of knowing, but convincing the beauty that she needed him was the challenge. Raising her young brother plus the responsibilities of the elder center, had kept her from looking for love…but she took a chance on Gabe.
Now that he found her, can he keep her safe when someone threatens her and those she loves? Calling upon his brothers, Alvarez Security races to save her before it is too late.
****Due to scenes of an explicit sexual nature and language that some consider crude, please be warned – for 18+ only! If you do not like alphas with heart who fall instantly in love with strong female characters while dealing with real life issues…again be warned!!*****
