Dinca’s review of Made of Steel (Made of Steel, Book 1) by Ivy Smoak
Romantic Suspense published by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform 13 Mar 17
Made of Steel is the first book of a trilogy. The happily ever after is two books away. If you are not into an emotional roller coaster, then do not start this book. If you are, you will be gripping your Kindle until your fingers hurt. Ivy Smoak creates a plot twist that is totally unexpected, and my heart went out to these strong characters who were consumed by the madness around them.
Summer Brooks’ life as an only child with loving parents came to an abrupt end. The only saving grace was her childhood friend, Miles Young, the boy next door she falls in love with at first sight – if you can do that at seven years of age. Miles and their tree house are some of her favorite memories. a
After her parents’ deaths, the next year or so Summer spent with her grandmother until she too passed away. Her life became one foster care home after another, until she was lost in the system with a violent man.
Summer has the opportunity for an abuse-free life with a new identity as Sadie Davis, along with a new city and a college education. All she has to do is forget she is Summer Brooks and stay away from anyone who knew her by that name. In a big city that should not be a problem…until it is.
There seems to be a lot of people who want to get to know Sadie Davis. However, trust is an issue for Sadie – even with the one person from her past who bumps into her new life. Sadie is counting on her new persona and the change made to her looks to hide her true identity.
Sadie tries to have a normal college life with her roommate, a boyfriend, a part-time job – and wait, there’s more… a vigilante! As strange things start to happen around Sadie, she has no idea who she can trust. Just when she thinks she has a good grasp of the situation, the dynamics change and that’s where you are clutching your Kindle again.
This story is very well written with a nice, steady pace that keeps you turning the pages. The plot twists were a surprise and you will have to pick up Book 2 in Made of Steel trilogy to discover who the vigilante might be.

Summary:
Once upon a time, my name was Summer Brooks. I fell in love with a prince and my dreams went as far as the stars. I had my whole life figured out. I had my whole life in front of me. But my life wasn’t meant to be a fairy tale.
Everything I knew was taken away in a flash.
Broken. Lost. Abandoned. Beaten.
Ten years of pain. Ten years of torture. I’m finally free. But I’m not Summer Brooks anymore. That girl died as soon as the devil himself put his hands on me. Now I live amongst the villains. They follow me like the plague. And I have a darkness inside of me that I can’t seem to escape. I lost everything, and I don’t know how to keep breathing in a city that has no stars.
But even though my appearance has changed, deep down I know that a shadow of the girl I once was still remains. I don’t want to give up on my past. I just need something to hold on to. Anything. And the only one that could possibly understand is someone who knows what it’s like to hide in the shadows. Someone else who knows what it’s like to live behind a mask.
The only thing I know for sure is that someone in this city is watching me. And I just hope to God it isn’t my past catching up to me.
