Kristie J’s review of Twist (Dive Bar, Book 2) by Kylie Scott
Contemporary Romance published by St. Martin’s Griffin 11 Apr 17
I had such fun reading the first book, Dirty, in this series that I wanted to keep going. And, of course, that made it one step closer to the third book with the mighty fine cover model. Joe Collins is the hero of this book and Joe is – well, Joe is awkward around women. He’s never sure what to say to them. So when, as the blurb states, his younger brother loses interest in an online romance, Joe takes over, never letting said online romance partner know that she’s no longer corresponding with Eric Collins but instead with his older brother.
So it’s a shock, to put it lightly, when she shows up in Joe’s hometown looking for “Eric” and the real Eric denies knowing her – or at least remembering her – and all hell breaks loose. It’s never occurred to Joe that something like this might happen. He tries eventually to try to explain to Alex that he is “Eric,” but Alex is not a happy camper to be tricked like this. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the money to fly home. She used it all up getting there.
Joe feels terrible and offers to let her stay in his apartment while he camps out with friends. She very reluctantly agrees and slowly is enveloped by Joe’s friends. And until things went to hell, there was a real bond between Joe and Alex and they started falling for each other in person. But Alex is determined to go home and Joe thinks she should too. Until he realizes he can’t let her go, of course.
One of the biggest appeals of these books is the friendships and the trash talk that goes on. Vaughn and Lydia from the first book play a role in this story, as does Eric, the hero of the next. Like the first book, this one is funny and fun to read and kept me wanting more of this group of friends.
Joe is the strong and silent type but quite appealing, and Alex steps way over her comfort zone when she is talked into meeting “Eric” in person. I like that in a heroine and I think Joe and Alex are cute together.
While this is part of a series, it could also be read as a stand-alone.
Summary:
When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot, bearded, bartender extraordinaire, Joe Collins, only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.
Alex Parks is funny, friendly, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman. And in no time at all they’re emailing up a storm, telling each other their deepest darkest secrets… apart from the one that really matters.
And when it comes to love, serving it straight up works better than with a twist.
