Sandy M’s review of Nobody But You (Cedar Ridge, Book 3) by Jill Shalvis
Contemporary Romance published by Grand Central Publishing 29 Mar 16
I can pick up a Jill Shalvis book any time, anywhere and know I will enjoy myself immensely, while going through every emotion imaginable. She’s a master at hooking readers to stay glued to her pages for hours or staying up way past bedtime. Her characters are those you’d like living next door to you, have flaws as well as big hearts, and you can’t wait to see what happens in their lives next.
And I know I will always fall in love with her heroes. Jacob is an Army vet, back home in Colorado after the hell of war and recent heartbreak. Add in the knowledge he has family to face, it’s all uphill for him. But those bridges he needs to build during this forced leave is interrupted by a fiery redhead who’s moored at his dock. Sophie, too, has had a time of it lately. She’s newly divorced and that boat she’s living on – due to the fact she’s got nothing else at the moment – is the one thing her ex really loved. Now she’s got it. Good for her! Especially since her family don’t have much faith in her anymore. A strong, determined woman is always a delight to read.
Jacob and Sophie are perfect together. From first meeting to the end, they slowly come to trust and rely on each other, though I do love some good banter between characters, and that’s another aspect of writing Ms. Shalvis excels at – right up there with Julia Quinn, Lorelei James, and Jo Goodman, to name a few. I also really like the family aspect for Jacob, a few tense and emotional moments that bring a tear to the eye.
This is the third book in the series, and I didn’t care one bit. I usually like to read series in order, but that’s definitely not required here. Jacob and Sophie will steal your heart and wrap it around theirs in no time at all.
Summary:
SOMETIMES YOU CAN GO HOME AGAIN…
After an overseas mission goes wrong, Army Special Forces officer Jacob Kincaidknows where he must go to make things right: back home to the tiny town of Cedar Ridge, Colorado. All he needs to scrub away his painful past is fresh mountain air, a lakeside cabin, and quiet solitude. But what he discovers is a gorgeous woman living on a boat at his dock.
Sophie Marren has nowhere else to go. She’s broke, intermittently seasick, and fighting a serious attraction to the brooding, dishy, I’m-too-sexy-for-myself guy who’s now claiming her dock. Something about Jacob’s dark intensity makes her want to tease—and tempt—him beyond measure. Neither one wants to give any ground…until they realize the only true home they have is with each other.
