Sandy M’s review of Resurrection (Redemption Harbor, Book 1) by Katie Reus
Romantic Suspense published by KR Press 11 Jul 17
This is my first read by Katie Reus. I have a load of her books in the TBR mountain. After reading this first story in her Redemption Harbor series – along with the second and getting ready to start on the third – I will be cracking open more and more of her books from now on.
Colt is CIA, and he’s on the most important mission of his life – the rescue of childhood friend, Mary Grace. He and his other friends, including Mary Grace’s husband, all believed her dead, but new intel has given Colt hope. However, before he can make his move to get her out of enemy hands, someone else beats him to the punch. When he comes face to face with Skye during this mission, the woman who owns him heart and soul and who he thought died six months before, he can’t help but feel betrayed. But he also can’t leave her be as she wants, because he knows something is wrong for her to fake her death and leave him.
Skye is one smart, sassy, and independent heroine. She’s former CIA because everyone thinks she’s dead. On the run and trying to find information on the asshole who is blackmailing her, Skye takes a side trip for a mission to return Colt’s friend to him. Those early scenes when she takes on a cadre of bad guys are a terrific introduction to her character. She’s bad ass, bar none. The perfect woman for Colt, even as she tries to keep him safe and alive. It’s also great to have a hero know his heroine’s worth and skills, giving her the opportunity to work side by side with him when the tough gets going. Trust is definitely as important as love.
This book is full of action and adrenaline, grabbing you and never letting go until the villain is taken down. I really like the family aspect among Colt and his friends. Blood isn’t always thicker than water, just as these characters prove. It’s especially well done when even the men show a bit of feeling and emotion for one another, just as friends should do. Still in a manly way, but it comes across loud and clear – none of that men don’t talk about feelings or cry and whatnot. Colt and Skye’s relationship is shown through flashbacks, bringing the reader up to date at just the right time. Their reunion is intense, both wanting what they had before but knowing it’s not safe yet to have that again, and they’re throwing sizzle and sparks all around in the meantime.
This was the perfect place for me to start reading Ms. Reus’ work. I loved every darned thing about this story, and I hope there are plenty more books in the series to come. I could read about these characters from here until…forever.
Summary:
She faked her own death…
Skye Arévalo left the CIA and faked her death to protect Colt Stuart, the only man she ever loved. Months later, a brutal kidnapping draws her to quietly infiltrate a dangerous cartel. Just when she thinks she’s home free, things go horribly wrong and she escapes with bloodthirsty enemies on her heels…only to find herself face to face with a bewildered and angry Colt.
He’ll cross every line to save her…
When Colt, a former Marine, finds out the woman he loved betrayed him, he’s shocked and hurt, but it doesn’t stop him from breaking every law on the books to keep her alive. Unfortunately, it might not be enough to stop a powerful enemy who will do anything to see the world burn and Skye dead.
