Veena’s review of Misconduct (Birmingham Rebels, Book 3) by Samantha Kane
Contemporary Erotic Romance published by Loveswept 25 Jul 17
I have read books in this series on and off randomly. I can’t put my finger on why I haven’t persisted and read every book in the series.
The Birmingham Rebels is a struggling football team which has had a fabulous season with the injection of some new players and coaching staff. While they’ve flourished on the field, they have also flourished off the field as many of the players have found themselves in controversial three-way relationships that are hitting the headlines. With this latest addition, Ms. Kane is continuing to stir controversy with her threesomes.Carmina has moved to Birmingham to get away from her overprotective family and to be close to Birmingham Rebels line backer Sam Taylor, the only other survivor from her unit when their transport got blown up by an IED. As she struggles to regain her speech and find her new normal, where, amongst other things, she wants to feel like a red-blooded woman. She’s attracted to Tom Kelly and Danny Smith who are players on and off the field, especially Tom. But they are willing to offer her only friendship. Can she get over her shyness and ask for what she wants?
Tom has been attracted to Carmina, and while he plows the field, he reserves a special spot for her. When he senses that she’s ready to progress beyond friendship, he’s more than willing, but he wants to have his roommate and fellow teammate, Danny Smith, come along for the ride. Tom has memories of one unforgettable night of group sex when he discovered that he was bi-sexual and also intensely attracted to Danny.
Danny has a lot of baggage and bitterness. As a college athlete he found his friend, the coach’s daughter, gang raped by members of his team. Forced to remain silent by the coach, he’s carried the guilt of that night into his pro football career and relationships. While he’s attracted to both Carmina and Tom, he’s not ready to acknowledge either his bi-sexuality or his submissive needs. Can Carmina and Tom wear him down or will he end up walking away from them and also lose a beautiful friendship in the bargain?
Tom’s, Carmina’s, and Danny’s story plays out interspersed between football games and the pivotal game where the ringleader of the gang rape is on the opposing side to the final game of the season for the Birmingham Rebels. The story is, in turns, gritty and emotional, sweet and sexy, and a very enjoyable read.
Summary:
The Birmingham Rebels play both sides of the field, proving that the hottest action isn’t always in the arena.
Rookie running back Tom Kelly loves the perks of football stardom. Men, women—there’s no shortage of companionship for a pro athlete who’s hot, young, and willing, and Tom is definitely willing. But deep down he wants a committed three-way relationship, especially if the female in the middle is Carmina de la Cruz. The undeniably sexy Army veteran may not say much, but her body speaks loud and clear.
After a traumatic tour in Afghanistan, Carmina is struggling to regain her speech and rebuild her life. More than anything, she wants to feel like a woman again. Tom may be a wholesome All-American, but he knows just how she needs to be touched—and he’s not the only Rebel who arouses her interest. With his scorching intensity, Tom’s best friend leaves her wondering if two players might be better than one.
Danny Smith is no stranger to his team’s kinky reputation. He gave in to temptation once, but he’s not going down that road again. Sure, Carmina’s curves promise pleasure, but her eyes guarantee it comes with baggage—and Danny has enough of his own. Still, giving up control can feel so good. And when it comes to everything Danny craves, Carmina and Tom make the perfect team.
