Veena’s review of The Enforcer (Games People Play, Book 2) by HelenKay Dimon
Contemporary Romance published by Avon 25 Apr 17
The quiet powerful men in this new series by HelenKay Dimon are slowly but surely working their magic on me. Mathias is very intriguing, short on words, and low on social skills but definitely the strong protective type who might help Kayla escape from a nightmare that’s lasted seven years.
While Kayla was innocently showering in her home, her roommates and friends are murdered most horrifically. Trying to shake the horrors of the blood and the people who consider her guilty, Kayla has hidden off the grid, trying to keep a low profile and hidden from the many who would like to see her pay for this crime. Just when she’s finally feeling safe, running a small coffee shop in a little town, two guys in suits walk into her diner and try to blend in. Kayla has great instincts and these guys stick out like sore thumbs, but Mathias has even better instincts and manages to stop Kayla from running away again.
Given the bullets they barely avoid and the mess of someone searching her apartment, it’s soon evident that someone other than Mathias has found Kayla. Now that Mathias has met Kayla, he’s convinced of her innocence and mobilizes his considerable assets to making Kayla safe. Will Mathias manage to stay ahead of the flying bullets and keep Kayla safe before a killer silences her and buries the last link to a crime that he thought he got away with?
It’s interesting to see the positive effect love has on the taciturn Wren and to learn more about the back story of all these powerfully interesting men who are behind the scenes movers and shakers in Washington. I am definitely hooked and want to continue to explore what the author has in mind for her readers next.
Summary:
Security expert Matthias Clarke hunts down people who don’t want to be found. His latest prey: the sole survivor of a massacre that killed his brother years ago. Kayla Roy claimed she was a victim of the carnage. Then she disappeared. Matthias thinks Kayla may have actually been the killer—and he wants justice.
Kayla Roy never stays in one place too long and never lets a man get too close. But keeping Matthias at arm’s length may be impossible. Dark and enigmatic, Matthias draws Kayla in from the start. She knows nothing about his connection to her dark past, or his thirst for vengeance. She only knows their attraction feels overpowering—and very dangerous.
Matthias’s suspicions about the sensual Kayla clash with his instinct to protect her, especially when he realizes her life is in danger. But Kayla’s not looking for a savior—especially one who seems hell-bent on tempting her down a lethal path.
