Veena’s review of The Spaniard’s Pregnant Bride (Heirs Before Vows, Book 1) by Maisey Yates
Contemporary Romance published by Harlequin Presents 01 Oct 16
Virginal Allegra Valenti is looking for one last fling before she marries the prince her family has chosen for her and settles down into domestic bliss. Little did she know that her encounter with the man masked to look like death will have unexpected consequences that will change the well-ordered future her parents have mapped out for her. This is a well-paced familiar story.
Christian Acosta does not believe he’s entitled to happiness, but when he learns that his delightful encounter at a Venetian masked ball was with his best friend Renzo’s pain-in-the-ass sister and not a stranger as he imagined, he manfully he steps up to the plate and offers marriage. A marriage with a termination date that will allow the child to be born legitimately and leave them both to pursue their own future.
Allegra has always been in love with Christian, and while she’s thankful to be out of her arranged marriage, she feels she might actually have leaped out of the frying pan right into the fire. Is there a future for these two? You’ll have to read the book to see how it all comes about.
Christian is a bit of typical Harlequin tortured millionaire, but Allegra is a kick-ass heroine. For all that she’s a sheltered rich girl, she has gumption that has her leaving her groom standing at the altar for her principles. This is a delightful story, and I definitely hope to see her brother Renzo get his own comeuppance in a future book from the author.
