If you enjoy action adventure with a strong dollop of romance, then this series is for you. I’ve lost count of the number of stories in this genre that I’ve read from Kat Martin as we’ve moved from Texas to California to Alaska and now Seattle, but each story keeps a sharp edge of suspense with believable romance that keeps me coming back again and again and again.
Protecting lingerie models on a cross-country tour is an assignment that most red-blooded males would kill for, and yet Ethan Brodie is somewhat ambiguous and perhaps even reluctant to take on this assignment. Valentine Hart puts all his doubts to bed as she blows him away with her lethal combination of shy innocence, brains, and beauty. She’s only one of the top ten models who are going to be modeling lingerie in various venues across the country who is under threat from a religious nut who vents against the display of the girls strutting their stuff.
When threats quickly escalate into murder, Ethan needs to step up his game to keep Valentine and his other charges safe. As he strategizes his special hand-picked team, he antagonizes the regular security detail who’s responsible for the security at the venues and other details. Ethan quickly moves Valentine into his own protective custody, even as he organizes similar arrangements for the other girls. Does this break the no fraternization rule of his company’s contract? Well, he’s going to cross that bridge when he comes to it.
Valentine Hart is a beautiful, innocent girl who uses the opportunity that she won in order to make enough money to put herself through veterinarian school. She definitely did not sign up for living under the threat of murder, but Ethan Brodie makes her feel safe. Are the murders the next step in a raving madman’s plan to bring his threats to life or is there more hidden behind the scenes? As Ethan follows the clues, a chilling story emerges. Can Ethan stay one step ahead of the killer and keep Val safe?
I love the fast-paced action adventure. Perhaps some of the elements might have been somewhat predictable, but it does not take away one iota of enjoyment. I anticipate each book as it’s released and the author delivers time after time with predictable results.
