Book CoverSandy M’s review of What You Need (Need You, Book 1) by Lorelei James
Contemporary Romance published by Penguin 5 Jan 16

For some bizarre reason, when reading a Lorelei James book, I find myself wondering what it would be like if I could wander around in that talented head of hers – a cacophony of characters and ideas just waiting to burst forth. Thank goodness I’m not the one who has to make sense of the swirling dervish to come up with one great book after another. Ms. James once again gives readers characters who will keep us up till all hours of the night just to find out what happens next.

I absolutely adore Brady Lund. He’s one of those sexy brainiac types who pushes every button known to womankind. Being a workaholic with too many hours under his belt each week, Brady’s brothers finally decide the man needs a bit of help to loosen up and walk on the wild side. He goes along with the “ritual” they’ve concocted, and when the woman who’s been tantalizing his fantasies for a while now literally drops into his arms, he’s pretty darned glad he’d been forced to be at this right place at the right time.

After years of running wild on her own, from being a roadie with a band to being a cocktail waitress – all starting when she was only fifteen – Lennox Green finally has a job where she can use her skills, help her learn more to advance, and put money in the bank. Lund Industries is the perfect place for her, especially when CFO Brady Lund is anywhere within sight. Nothing sexier than that man in a suit. After cutting loose at a friend’s bar one night, all for old time’s sake, Lennox finds herself being pursued by Brady. He’s not technically her boss, so just maybe she should take what he’s offering.

And I’m certainly glad she does. These two together are the quintessential romance couple. She’s from a horrible background, a mother who couldn’t care less about her and shows her so at every turn. He’s from a close-knit family who are there for each other, no questions asked, any time of the night or day. She’s inked and pierced. He’s buttoned up and a straight arrow. They’re both really great in the bedroom. Brady proposes Lennox help him find his wild side, help him change from the uptight and responsible company officer to someone who can be spontaneous and fun. A big job? Maybe. It’s a journey that they’re not truly prepared for but one they’d never miss for the world.

Lennox is the strong, independent heroine you’re used to reading from Lorelei James. She’s been through a lot in life, has persevered, knows what she wants and goes for it. Her vulnerabilities get to her here and there, but she still comes out on top with determination and grit. Her loyalty, smile, friendship, sense of humor, and sexy tats make her fun and I loved every minute of getting to know her.

I am very much looking forward to every book in this series about the Lund siblings. Lorelei James has drawn me in again with charming characters, quick and witty banter, humor that made me laugh out loud, and tortoise shell glasses. All from that swirling dervish that I hope never, ever calms down.

Summary:

The Lund name is synonymous with wealth and power in Minneapolis–St. Paul. But the four Lund siblings will each discover true love takes a course of its own. . . .

As the CFO of Lund Industries, Brady Lund is the poster child for responsibility. But eighty-hour work weeks leave him little time for a life. His brothers stage an intervention and drag him to a seedy nightclub . . . where he sees her: the buttoned-up blonde from the office who’s starred in his fantasies for months.

Lennox Greene is a woman with a rebellious past, which she conceals beneath her conservative clothes. She knows flirting with her boss during working hours is a bad idea. So when Brady shows up at her favorite dive bar and catches her cutting loose, she throws caution aside and dares him to do the same.

After sparks fly, Brady finds that keeping his hands off Lennox during office hours is harder than expected. Though she makes him feel alive for the first time in years, a part of him wonders if she’s just using him to get ahead. And Lennox must figure out whether Brady wants her for the accomplished woman she is—or the bad girl she was.
