Veena’s review of In the Company of Wolves (SWAT, Book 3) by Paige Tyler
Urban Fantasy published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 01 Dec 15
Talk about love at first sight – all the while under fire. Bullets are flying when Eric and Janna meet on opposing sides of a job. Compelled by a force of nature bigger than himself or his team, he hides her away instead of arresting her. Now he’s got to find her and figure out if there’s a future for them, considering he’s a police officer and she’s a criminal. This next book in the SWAT series delivers intense action as yet another member of the team finds “the one.”
Eric is not sure that she’s “the one,” but he’s driven to find her and protect her even from his comrades, if necessary. He’s definitely one heck of a police officer as he figures out her name and a possible location from a crumpled Starbucks receipt she left behind at the scene of the crime. He tracks her down, only to find out that his she wolf is up to her neck in trouble.
Janna feels the corresponding throb of attraction to Eric. She, however, is deeply committed to her pack which is in debt to a European cartel that wants to take over the vacant spot left behind when the SWAT team took out the criminal king pin in Dallas. Determined to win his fair lady, Eric goes undercover with the cartel, where he uses all the weapons at his disposal to win over his fair love while keeping her and her pack safe.
Ms. Tyler drops a few more breadcrumbs in her werewolf lore as we meet omegas and betas, while ramping up the adrenaline in giving our SWAT alphas an enemy who matches them in strength and smarts. When they first come across these guys, they are definitely taken by surprise and it’s the fact that they are loners who don’t act like a team that wins the day for our SWAT boys and brings Janna and Eric together.
It’ll be interesting to see our new beta wolves find mates, as well as the rest of the SWAT team, as the series continues.
Summary:
He opened his mouth to order her to drop the MP5 she had aimed at him, but nothing would come out. It was like she’d robbed him of the ability to speak. Shooting her wasn’t an option, though. And the idea of arresting her didn’t make him feel any better.
There’s a new gang of criminals in town who are organized and ruthless in the extreme. When Eric Becker, along with the rest of the Dallas SWAT team, ends up in the middle of a shootout, he immediately senses werewolves-a lot of them. Turns out, the new bad guys are a pack of wolf shifters.
In a spray of gunfire, Becker comes face-to-face with the most gorgeous woman he’s ever seen. Becker does the logical thing. He hides her and leaves the scene with the rest of his team.
Jayna Winston has no idea why that SWAT guy helped her, but she’s glad he did. Ever since she and her pack mates got mixed up with those Eastern European mobsters, everything had pretty much fallen apart.
So what’s a street-savvy thief like Jayna going to do with a hot alpha-male wolf who’s a police officer?
