Veena’s review of The Duke and Miss Christmas (The Heir’s Club, Book 2.5) by Amelia Grey
Historical Romance published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 13 Oct 15
This is a sweet novella full of Christmas cheer and romance. It definitely set the tone for the upcoming holidays. Crispin, for all that he’s paid his dues in the rakes stakes, is definitely not looking to settle down and start filling his nursery, when he comes across a beautiful girl sitting in the snow with no one in sight for miles around. Will a chance act of kindness change his life forever?
Gwen attacks first and asks questions and for forgiveness later. Actually, I’m not sure she ever asks for forgiveness. To her chagrin, she finds not only has she interrupted a rescue attempt but that the stranger under her attack is a duke. As you can well imagine, mortified by her faux pas, she wants absolutely nothing more to do with him.
Crispin has a wild reputation that he’s attempting to live down, as he finds himself seeking out the tart and vinegary Gwen and charming her into sweetness. Is there a future for them or is the lady already spoken for? This a great story as Crispin exerts himself to be charming, not just to Gwen but to her entire family, definitely showing up her beau and not in a good light.
I find this story charming and a great standalone read for readers who are not familiar with the series.
Grade: B
Summary:
Crispin, the Duke of Hurst, has never met a woman he couldn’t handle–until he’s hit over the head with a basketful of mistletoe by a young lady who mistakes his intentions. When he gets into a tussle with her–and she can hold her own–Crispin knows he has finally met his match.
Miss Gwen Prim is mortified that she attacked a duke, but even more concerning is the way her resolve melts when she’s near him. She’s never felt this way about a London gentleman in her life. And with the magic of Christmas in the air, she may end up with a proposal she didn’t expect…
