Veena’s review of Rock Redemption (Rock Kiss, Book 3) by Nalini Singh
Contemporary Romance published by TKA Distribution 06 Oct 15

Noah and Kit have sparked readers’ imaginations from the very first book in this series. The dark past that haunts Noah St. John is finally laid bare in all its emotional intensity. Can Kit find a way to forgive and forget the damage that Noah in his pain and fear inflicted on her and find a way to carve out a possible future with him?  This is not a fluffy story for the light of heart, but, if you persevere, it’s a rough but rewarding ride to the finish.

Noah drowns in drink and women in an attempt to forget his dark past. Despite the support offered by his band mates of the school boy choir, he’s unable to climb out of the pit of despair he’s fallen into. Kit’s friendship had offered a bright light of hope in his life, until he deliberately destroyed it by letting her find him in bed with random groupies. The distance between them seems too vast to be bridged, until one dark night he cries out for help and she answers.

Kit is famous in her own right, but Noah’s fame and connections might be able to give her the edge she needs to close a coveted role. As they pretend a love interest for the paparazzi, it’s hard to keep their true feelings hidden. Both of them are self-made in their success, despite the wealthy, well-known families they belong to. Kit’s childhood revelations and the casual neglect of her parents is disturbing, but Noah’s dark, hidden secrets, when they finally see the light of day, are heartbreaking.

To make the story more interesting, Kit has a stalker who makes alarming cameo appearances throughout the story to add a nice touch of suspense. The author is very successful in keeping the suspense alive, until she’s ready to reveal the identity of this stalker to the readers.

Playing out against the emotional backdrop between these two characters is the mystery of that stalker, whose identity, when it is finally revealed, is a total surprise.  The camaraderie and friendship between the band members and their significant others adds a very nice, soft touch to an otherwise gritty story. I love the little touch of how each of them in their own way had reached out and sent their sympathies to their friend’s estranged wife.

These stories are fresh and contemporary and sweep the reader into the high-profile life of a rock band and all the trials and tribulations that extreme success brings in its wake. A must-read series for readers who enjoy contemporary romantic fiction.

Grade: A

Summary:

Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness…until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.

Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he’d rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It’s his saving grace, but it doesn’t silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours’ sleep and his bad boy reputation.

When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new “it” couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting—needing—to give Kit this, even if he can’t give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful…and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.
