I think I’m getting very blasé and disillusioned when I find myself bored with a story by one of my favorite authors. The rich man with a troubled childhood who turns to BDSM as a lifestyle choice only to be felled by a beautiful innocent, who’s intrigued at the possibility of submission, is getting a little old by now. I, for one, am definitely looking for something new and different.
Michael is a typical bored tycoon who uses BDSM to deaden his emotional pain until he first meets Emma Shore. Emma is a feisty innocent hospice nurse who is contracted to care for Michael’s stepmother in her last days, and she definitely believes in putting her patient first regardless of the arbitrary rules to the contrary.
In her first foray of breaking the rules, Emma finds herself breathlessly watching a BDSM scene between Michael and his submissive du jour, safely hidden in a closet. Intrigued, despite herself, with what she’s seen, she gets talked into experimenting with him when their first meeting leads to a mutual attraction between them.
Their story spans the beautiful French Riviera and a European Grand Prix race where Emma gets to mix with the movers and shakers of European society on Michael’s arm. Along the way, Emma delves into Michael’s troubled past with a view to helping him come to terms with the rough hand he’s been dealt with on the emotional end.
I find the story well written but slow and predictable.
