Veena’s review of One Kiss More (US Marshals, Book 2) by Mandy Baxter
Contemporary Romance published by Zebra Books 24 Feb 15
This is a cute, lighthearted romance about straddling the line between crime and love. He’s a US Marshall, while she’s the daughter of a criminal whom he first brought to justice and who’s now a prison escapee. As his attraction to Emma grows, suddenly things are not so black and white to this heretofore color-in-the-lines crime fighter. Fighting to find a different truth from one that paints her father a criminal, he steps so far out into the grey that he might not survive to deliver true justice.
The temperature is on the hot side even in rainy Seattle as the fire blazes between Emma and Landon. They’re primed and don’t seem to be able to keep their hands, mouths, and other appendages away from each other as the story unfolds, even if they are on very opposing sides.
Emma is a computer hacker extraordinaire and doesn’t know how to quit. In her quest for the truth to save her father, she ends up getting on the wrong side of some very bad criminals. Worst of all, she hits them where it hurts, which is their bank accounts. In their quest to bring her to heel, the criminal organization kidnaps her father from the prison in which he is serving his sentence. Can Landon and Emma, with the help of the alphabet soup who are after the criminals, rescue her father while keeping themselves alive?
I have not read the first book, and even though Landon’s partner, who is the hero of that book, plays his own role here, this story is stand alone enough to be read on its own. This is one of those books to take to the beach and sit under an umbrella sipping tropical concoctions with its mix of sex and suspense.
Grade: B
Summary:
Rough, tough and by the book, he’s most criminals’ worst nightmare. Until the girl of his dreams is caught on the other side. . .
Emma Ruiz knows her father is innocent. But that doesn’t help her convince the law–not even smoking hot U.S. Marshal Landon McCabe. When McCabe bangs on her door demanding information about how her cancer-stricken father escaped from federal prison, she’ll have to distract him somehow–it may as well be with a stolen kiss.
Landon gets why Emma isn’t saying all she knows. What he doesn’t understand is why he’s putting his reputation, his case, and his badge on the line for a gorgeous person of interest. Much as he’d love to, he can’t let Emma play him. The stakes are higher than either of them can guess. The only way to survive is to trust their instincts. But their instincts want more than one kiss. . .
