Veena’s review of Wolf Bride (Lust in the Tudor Court, Book 1) by Elizabeth Moss
Historical Romance published by Sourcebooks Casablanca 05 May 15

This is a sensuous and seductive historical romance that sizzles with red-hot passion as the author skillfully interweaves steamy love scenes with tender romance against a backdrop of  intrigue and authentic historical drama that sweeps the reader back to Tudor England and the evil machinations of King Henry VIII’s court.

Wolf is a battle-hardened soldier who’s had his finer emotions trampled on in his youth when his fiancé ran off with another man. He’s avoided women except to slake his passions, but now he’s ready to settle down and sire an heir to take over his vast estates. Having fond memories of a youthful Eloise, he determines upon her as choice of bride. Considering that he feels he has no love to give, he has a hard time controlling his jealousy every time Eloise smiles or converses with men of her station.

Surrounded by the passion and intrigue of the Tudor Court as lady in waiting to Anne Boleyn, Eloise is privy to the decadent goings-on around her while she innocently dreams of knightly love. Her father’s choice of groom is a far cry from her dreams and yet she seems unable to resist the passion of his kisses and the dark desire he awakens in her. Determined to hold her own, she raises barriers against her nature until Wolf smashes them down in a series of erotic encounters.

Just as they seem to be settling into a workable married relationship, they are recalled to court from the wilds of Yorkshire where they make their home. The shadows are darker as Eloisa stands her ground, defending herself and the queen’s secrets.  I love how Eloise starts out as a shy and docile girl who grows into a confident and self-assured woman as the story progresses.

Sexual attraction has deepened into stronger feelings for both of them and yet neither is ready to admit the truth of it to each other. To complicate matters, Wolf’s first love has also returned to court and it appears as though he is once again in her thrall. Surrounded by secrets and shadows, are they prepared to lay old ghosts to rest or will the past continue to jeopardize their future?

I thoroughly enjoyed Eloise and Wolf’s love story.  If you’re looking for an intelligent, evocative, and wonderfully passionate erotic romance, then look no further. I am looking forward to the next installment.

Grade: A
