Sandy M’s review of Playing Dirty (Bad Boys Undercover, Book 1) by HelenKay Dimon
Romantic Suspense published by Avon 27 Jan 15
There are some authors out there that no matter what I tell myself, I’m going to read their next book soon. Very soon. But then I don’t, for one reason or another. Then there are those authors whose books I won’t miss for anything. HelenKay Dimon is one of those very few authors for me. I may get a bit behind in reading everything she releases, as in this case, but, goshdarnit, I’m going get the next read book, doesn’t matter when. And I’m always so glad I do that. This book is no different. I love everything about it.
Ford left the FBI to work with Alliance, a combination of MI6’s and the CIA’s best of the best. He does what it takes to make a difference in the world, especially when he was assured his participation, along with the rest of his team, would garner no roadblocks, no red tape, they had the go-ahead to get the job the done. Currently they’re trying to track down the MIA employee who’s created a dangerous toxin before it falls into the wrong, evil hands. Shay Alexander is that man’s cousin, and Ford has ensconced himself into her life to see what she knows. Trouble is, there’s something about Shay that has him pushing across lines he’s never crossed before.
Telling herself she needs to take things slow with Ford – she doesn’t need another breakup anytime soon – she finds she can’t keep away from him. Shay can’t keep her hands to herself, and I don’t blame her one bit. Ford is that perfect alpha hero – a man his mama raised right to help out fixing a plugged drain and other domestic things, a man who knows how to keep a woman so very happy 24/7, and a man whose team trusts him without question and has their loyalty to the end. So then what’s a woman to do when she discovers he’s almost no better than the jerk she just got rid of, lying to her, deceiving her, breaking her heart?
Shay is no pushover. She holds her own when all hell breaks loose as the men make their move to get their hands on that deadly serum. She also keeps her pride when Ford comes to her door after all is out in the open, said and done. There’s a lot to deal with concerning her family and she has a heart to mend. But she also has to listen to that heart, and it’s telling her to listen to Ford. These two are just fabulous together. And I love the interaction of all the team members, razzing each other to death and then watching each other’s back when they’re out in the field.
Another winner from HelenKay Dimon. This is the first book in the series, so if you haven’t read it yet, you’re not that far behind. Take it from someone who knows!
