Veena’s review of Fearless (Survival Race, Book 2) by K.M. Fawcett
Sci-Fi Romance published by Forever Yours 07 Jan 14
The beauty of this genre is that the author’s imagination is the only limiting factor to the story. My image of the genre has been created by Star Trek or the recently released Hunger Games. Unfortunately, while Ms. Fawcett has incorporated some very interesting elements in mind-propelled water craft or empathetic healing, this story does not fit my image of the genre.
Kedric is a born leader. He escapes from a life of enslavement and creates a sanctuary for others like him who have managed to escape from captivity. However, he’s obsessed by the fact that he had to leave his sister behind when he left and he’s determined to defeat the Hyboreans and rescue his sister. Completely ruled by his vengeance, he sets out to war on all the peaceful inhabitants around him so he can conscript new soldiers for his army.
Myia is a forest dweller where she’s training to be a shaman. Her quest is to replace the vengeance in Kedric’s heart with love, such that he stops warring on his neighbors. When they first make contact, it doesn’t seem that her quest is going to be successful, but gradually she begins to make inroads into Kedric’s psyche, and it appears that not only can she help him achieve his goals but perhaps he can help her grow and develop as a shaman in a way that wasn’t quite what she had originally envisioned for herself.
I love science fiction and space opera stories and there just aren’t enough of them, so I automatically buy/read the few and far between that come along in this genre. This one just does not fulfill my craving at all.
Grade: C
Summary:
TWO SOULS
Myia, a shaman-in-training, wants desperately to protect her peaceful village from the barbaric Highland invaders. To hone her powers of prophetic visions and healing, the village elders send Myia on a quest to heal the Highland leader’s heart and stop a brewing war. Myia’s mended many souls before, so this should be an effortless duty . . . until she meets the gorgeous, stubborn Highland warlord.
ONE DESIRE
Kedric, a gladiator who escaped enslavement, only wants to liberate the villagers from their common foe-a race that breeds humans for blood sport and genetic experiments. Fueled by his rage, Kedric is determined to take down the brutal enemy. So when a raven-haired beauty with a body made for sin tries to sabotage his mission, Kedric wants her gone. Yet no woman’s touch has ever left Kedric more annoyed . . . and aroused. Kedric knows he should shun her soothing embrace-but he can’t seem to stay away. As their passion grows, Kedric must decide between fighting his war or surrendering his rage-and his heart-for Myia’s love.
