Sandy M’s review of Werewolf in Alaska (Wild About You, Book 6) by Vicki Lewis Thompson
Paranormal Romance published by Signet 6 Jul 13

This is one of those series that I’ve been having the best time with, but I get behind in keeping up with it as each new book is released. So I’m just reading where I can when I can. And still having a great time.

Rachel is a well-known artist and enjoys her solitude in the Alaskan wilderness, a cabin on a lake, not too far from the closest small town, and then there’s the show that goes on on the other side of the lake. Thanks to her binoculars anyway. She’s been enjoying the skinny dipping her neighbor treats her to each night.
Though Jake has been stealing glimpses of Rachel for the last three years and wishing he could have more with her, it’s his affiliation with WARM, Werewolves Against Random Mating, that he founded that keeps him on his side of the lake.

I love the humor in these stories.  One night, to keep Rachel out of danger from a mother bear, Jake is injured and ends up in her care. And what scenes those are! Rachel thinks she’s crazy for thinking this wolf can understand her when she speaks to him. And Jake is stuck in her bedroom for the duration, when she closes the door behind her each day, after making sure his wounds are taken care of.  My favorite scene is when Jake tries – and fails – to logically explain, when he makes the decision to throw aside his mating-with-human qualms and have sex with Rachel, that weres don’t need protection, they can’t contract diseases, they can only impregnate their mates, among other things, and Rachel puts a stop to the good time that could be had. Talk about a bad pick-up line, but it’s funny as can be.

With Rachel’s imaginative and creative mind, her suppositions about Jake and his behavior she’s observed are too close for comfort, and Jake finally has to let her in on the secret. He’s a bit bamboozled at her acceptance of his true wolfishness, but it all works in his favor when they end up having one fiery affair. Jake does his best to keep it all light and physical, but as romance readers know, he’s doomed. When he finally accepts what’s happening, he has to work out what his mating will mean for WARM, but now he’s in love and determined.

Werewolf in Alaska is another fun and entertaining story in this series. I enjoy Jake and Rachel a lot; they’re really good together no matter what’s going on or what they’re doing. Rachel is shy but still goes for what she wants and alpha Jake has to learn to take a step back to reassess when it comes to what he wants and needs. There’s always wonderful characters and a welcome sense of humor in every book. I can’t wait for the next one.

Summary:

In Polecat, Alaska, Rachel Miller and Jake Hunter have a mutual admiration for each other—from across a lake. There’s nothing Rachel likes more than spying on the very fit wilderness guide when he skinny-dips each night. And Jake has always been curious about his reclusive artist neighbor. He even bought Rachel’s first wood carving: a wolf who looks suspiciously like him….

Jake is a werewolf, but not just any werewolf. He’s the founder of WARM (Werewolves Against Random Mating). And that means a human like Rachel is off-limits, no matter how attractive he finds her.

But when Rachel is threatened by a bear, and Jake shifts to save her, their lives collide with an intense passion, one that could change everything they’ve ever felt about themselves—and each other….
