Veena’s review of Lissa: Sugar and Spice (The Wilde Sisters, Book3) by Sandra Marton
Contemporary Romance published by Amazon Digital Services 26 Feb 14
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, especially since I am one of three sisters myself. I love how each one of them keeps up the façade of being successful and downplays their problems but then rush to have each other’s back at the first hint of trouble. But what really makes the series for any reader is the sweet, tender emotion, the sparkling wit, and the sibling love and loyalty. Each of the sisters is delightful in her own way, but Lissa really takes the grand prize when she pours warm – or was it hot – fish stock complete with fish heads down her lecherous boss’ fly.
Of course, that single action takes Lissa from the pinnacle of success to the dregs of despair, such that she ends up flying to a remote ranch at the leading edge of a snow storm to cook for a grumpy old rancher and his crew. She believes she’s going to be producing cordon bleu meals at an exclusive resort. Lissa, however, is better than an Iron Chef, she shows her mettle when she manages to produce a meal out of a very bare cupboard. Hmm…could she have actually enjoyed this assignment, especially since she’s negotiated a good pay package? But can she live with a grumpy old Nick Gentry who’s nursing his wounds in the anonymity of his family ranch out in the wilderness?
Nick was riding at the pinnacle of success when an accident leaves him emotionally and physically damaged. He’s retreated from the world to lick his wounds and would have been content to live in the gloom of obscurity until Lissa’s arrival shakes him out of the doldrums he’s been wallowing in. He’s like an ostrich hiding its head in the sand, pretending to be someone else other than the famous actor he is, even though every one around him knows the truth.
As Lissa waits out the storm, sparks fly between her and Nick and take them right into the bedroom. The ranch hands look on with smiling indulgence as they watch the unfolding romance. Luckily the planes are still grounded. Then Nick makes a sweet, tender gesture that takes him out of obscurity and back into the public eye. Will their budding romance survive the end of the snow storm and the re-discovery of Nick by his fans?
I am sorry to see this trilogy finish up, but the twist at the end leaves me with the hope we’ll continue to visit with the Wildes in the near term.
