Sandy M’s review of The Entity Who Came to Christmas (Entity Series, Book 2.5)  by Cat Devon
Paranormal Romance novella published by St. Martin’s Paperbacks 15 Oct 13

I love reading paranormal romance. Being able to let my imagination go wild with the author’s characters and storyline is a good part of the fun. Most of the time it works. But if you’re going to change up a legend that people love in two major genres, you need to make sure something special ends up on the page. Camelot, King Arthur, Merlin, Excaliber – you mention any of those and people know exactly what you’re talking about. Even Morgan Le Fey. So Merlin as a vampire?

Simon is a vampire demon hunter, formerly a knight of the round table. Hence, it’s Merlin who sired him. Visiting fellow hunter Damon Thornheart in Vamptown, Simon comes face to face again with Pru Daniels. They have a history. They hooked up on London and things were going along quite nicely until Simon confessed he was with Pru only because she’s a descendant of Morgan LeFey and should be able to help him discover Excaliber before the demons do. Needless to say, that doesn’t go over well at all, and Pru gets even by putting a curse on the man. He hasn’t been able to perform sexually since.

But Pru can’t lift the curse until Simon believes. And that’s about as clear as she is each time she “explains” to him. I’m as in the dark as Simon is until the very end. There’s still some hotness going on between them as they hunt for that famous sword. I do like these two when they’re together. The banter is fun, sparking back and forth between some hard feelings and what the future can hold. The action near the end is intense, and Simon finally learns to “believe.”

I’m just not on board with the King Arthur backdrop. Having not read any other books in this series, I have no idea if that is a theme that runs throughout or it’s for this novella only. It does make me curious, so I will be checking out at least the first book to see where that goes. I’m hoping it leads to the second book, because overall I do enjoy Ms. Devon’s writing and imagination.

Summary:

Pru Daniels should know better than to hook up with sexy Simon Howell. He’s a vampire Demon Hunter and a former knight at King Arthur’s roundtable. She’s a witch, a descendant of Morgan Le Fay. Clearly things could get complicated.

When Simon shows up in Vamptown while Pru is visiting a friend and fellow witch, he claims to have come for the holidays to visit fellow vampire Demon Hunter Damon Thornheart. But things soon turn passionate as Pru and Simon join together to battle the forces of evil. The holidays won’t be the only thing ruined if Simon and Pru can’t work things out. Can this vampire Demon Hunter find his heart in time to save his love…and his immortality?
