Sandy M’s review of Breaking Point (I-Team, Book 5) by Pamela Clare
Romantic Suspense published by Berkley 3 May 11
When I open a Pamela Clare book, I know I’m going to be in for a very emotional, very sensual, and very wild and dangerous ride. I know I will laugh. I will cry. I will become enamored of her characters. I will revel in the intensity, tenderness, and romance of their love making. I will sit on the edge of my seat, praying those characters will get through their hell as quickly and unscathed as possible.
So far I’ve only read the last two books of this series, and they are as gripping and full of emotion as can be. The way the heroes and heroines meet are unique and intense, and I’m now so curious to find out if the previous books are the same.
Zach is ex-military and now a U.S. Marshall in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, investigating Los Zetas and its leader, who is suspected of abducting, torturing, and then murdering young women for his bloodthirsty rituals. Having gone through days of torture at their hands, Zach is surprised to hear the bastards toss a woman into the cell next to him. He knows her fate and tries to calm her fears as her reality sets in.
But Natalie is much stronger than he could imagine. She’s the one, despite their odds, who manages to free herself from her restraints and then help Zach so they can make their escape.
Grade: A+
Summary:
While investigating border violence in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, Denver journalist Natalie Benoit is caught in a bloody ambush and taken captive. Alone in the hands of ruthless killers, she will need every ounce of courage she possesses to survive.
Betrayed by another operative, Deputy U.S. Marshal Zach McBride has endured a week of torture and interrogation at the hands of a bloodthirsty Mexican drug cartel. Ready to give his life if he must, he remains unbroken—until he hears the cries of an American woman.
Although Natalie is only a voice in the darkness of their shared prison, her plight brings renewed strength to Zach’s battered body. With her help, he overpowers their captors, and they flee through the desert toward the border, the attraction between them flaring hotter than the Sonoran sun.
But past loss and tragedy leave both of them reluctant to follow their hearts, even when the passion between them reaches its breaking point. Faced with feelings neither expected, they fight to stay ahead of the danger that hunts them as forces more powerful than they can imagine conspire to destroy them both…

Other books in this series:
Hi Sandy
No surprise, seeing the A+ rating. I read this book till 5:30AM because I couldn’t put it down. Then I didn’t want to sleep LOL. You are so lucky you have the first three to read. I unknowingly started with book 3, Unlawful Contact. Never read anything like it. How could an escaped prisoner be the hero? Trust Pamela to turn you inside out. I had to go back & read her others. Didn’t hurt that I had read them out of order. You should read them. Part of the magic of her series & Breaking Point is her ability to balance a whole new story/couple & blend in the former couples into the story without them taking over.
Part of what I love is the interaction between the guys. On Pamela’s blog we actually have grown woman fighting over who is the best. I was Team Marc #3 for a long time but Gabe & Zach came along. But if I truly had to choose I’d be Team RJMGZ LOL. I’ll expect reviews so go read them. You won’t regret it.
Hi, Mary. LOL, I knew I wouldn’t surprise anyone on this review. I can’t imagine anyone not liking this book or the entire darned series. I am going to read the first three books as soon as I can – I have to find them in storage from my recent move first! LOL talk about frustration. I’ve heard other readers voice your same concern about Marc, but I would never doubt an author of Clare’s caliber. And I so agree with you about the interaction between the guys. I realize now that I failed to mention one of my favorite scenes is when they’re all looking at Joaquin’s pictures in the hospital, and the description of the emotion in them is so awesome. You can’t help but love those men more than ever before. LOL I have no problem imagining grown women fighting over these guys! I have to say that Zach is my favorite so far, of course I’ve only read the last two books, but I’m a huge sucker for a tortured hero, and Zach is doubly so. He stole my heart right off the bat!
Good to hear from you! Haven’t seen you around in a while.
Yes Sandy – that scene with the picture hit me twice. When Joaquin took the pic & what he saw through the lens and then again when he showed everyone else. The whole book is one big highlight LOL. I actaully picked up Unlawful Contact last night to enjoy again after I read your review.
I was hoping I’d run across another book of the series in going through my books in storage today, but, alas, no such luck. I’m not giving up, though! Since it’s going to be a while for the next book, I want more Clare in the meantime. I did, however, come across my copy of Ride the Fire, which I’ve heard is also very good. Have you read her MacKinnon Rangers? Love them too and so glad to know she’s working on Connor’s book now. Can’t wait for that!
I have a blogger friend, Kristie from Ramblings on Romance, who says Ride The Fire is one of the best books ever. She read it back to back it was so good. I have to find my copy in my TBR mountain.
